descendant of eibon question

By kamacausey, in CoC Rules Discussion

heres a scenario that came up last night while we were playing a game of coc:

my opponent commits his characters to the story, i commit mine, he then removes 2 success tokens off stories to put the descendant of eibon into play commited to the same story his other characters are at.

i tell him he cannot do that because he would have had to commit the descendant when he commited all of his other characters to the story. he doesnt think that is right. who is right here?

thanks in advance,

-kama

Decendant of Eibon's action only permits him to enter the game in any moment, not to be commited. I believe that Magnus Arcana said he likes a lot DoE for defense, more that to attack for that kind of situation. As attacker, your DoE must first enter the game to, then, commit. As defender, your DoE can enter the game (and then, commit) after the attacker commit his characters, taking adventage of not counting with him.

So, you have reason, the DoE dont enter commited.

Absolutely correct. Characters can only commit during the commit step (2nd [active player] or 4th [passive player] block of Story Phase on page 13).

Although he was certainly able to bring Descendent into play after you committed, he was unable to commit the card.

2... no... 3! 3 points for paying attention!

lol.

Oh wait... you spelled the name wrong. Thats a one point minus!

Ahhhh.... now I feel bad. You can have all 3 points.

Anyway... echoing the truthness above. You cannot commit a Descendant of Eibon unless he is in play before your window to commit characters arises!

To my knowledge there does exsist one character that can commit after your commit phase as a suprise. 4 Points to the first person who gives me the correct answer!

Julia Brown or The Sleepwalker can commit after all characters have been committed... though only if Julia Brown, Insomniac was made insane due to losing a terror struggle at that story.

Nebulous Ooze can uncommit and commit any ready Yog-Sothoth character to that same story (without exhausting).

But Cats of Ulthanar are the only character I can think of that can commit itself to a story after all characters are committed as a true surprise.

Ding Ding. 4 Points and a bonus point for each of your bonus answers. Plus an additional bonus point for correcting me in the other thread. Stupid things happen when you think way faster than you can type... /second faceplam.

However, thats a nice total of 7... 7 amazing points. Congrats.

I'm jealous, I don't even have any of my own points. In fact... one point minus for the mistake in the other thread. Now I owe myself a point. In debted to my own fake system. I feel like the economy. lol

Interesting note though, did you know that the Cats of Ulthar is the only card left that allows you to get a garunteed uncontested story (assuming the cats aren't removed in some other way)? Strange I know. Wonder how long it will stay that way.
