WTF is an Aeon?!?

By Zaphkiel, in Anima: Beyond Fantasy RPG

I have heard time and time again about Aeons, and though the supplement books (especially Dominus Exxet) use the word frequently, there has never, to my knowledge, been a comprehensive, conclusive and detailed explanation as to what the hell is an Aeon!? It's pissing me off!

Sorry for that rant :D but seriously, if you could provide me with an answer, please post it. I'm really interested in using Summoners in my game and I'd like to know what I'm dealing with in that respect.

By the way, is it just me or do summoners seem a tad bit underpowered, compared to the rest? How much do the summonings really help, if the Summoner isn't able to call hugely powerful creatures? If you have experiences on playing/using them, please let me know!

Thanks in advance!

I do not know, but from the way it is used I believe they are any Beings Between Worlds, or any summon able creature.

I have heard that this game was supposed to have some basis in Final Fantasy, and summons in there are also called Aeons. Also the word Aeon means (I believe) a powerful being sending a representative to the material plane.

They talk about them slightly in DE in the Bloodlines chapter, where it is possible for you to inherit some powers from them, as they gifted some mortals with their powers in ages past. There, it says they are ancient and powerful creatures rivaling even the gods in power. I do know that we get one of them, the Aeon of Electricity, Rudraksha, written up in Those Who Walk Among Us, hopefully due out this month. Also, it should be noted, not all the Aeons are elementally aspected. But a lot of the Bloodline abilities are referred to as coming from this Aeon or that one. Sorry, phenomenally powerful creature is the best answer I've got.

Edit: And yes, at least some of them are summonable. In the Chapter on Invocations in Arcana Exxet (next translation chapter after I finish with Incarnations, they have a couple of them listed. Kagutsuchi, the Aeon of Fire, shows up in the Medium Powers list. When that is translated, it may shed a little more light on the matter as well.)

Alright, so it seems I'm not the only one who hasn't got all the answers yet. I'm hoping the TwWAU -supplement will give some answers. I'm really really looking forward to that one, although the one I really want to get my hands on is Arcana Exxet.

Speaking of which, thank you so much, Arikail, for translating the pages and posting them here, it's really wonderful you're doing that, all of it is giving me so much inspiration to my games. Again, thank you! :)

You're quite welcome. You're not the only one that is inspired, and I can't wait to get my hands on an actual English copy of the book. Of course, by that point in time, I'm most likely have the entire book translated myself, but still, it's the thought of it. I really like the stuff they've put in there so far, and love that Summoners got some serious love in the book. :)

Edit: And no, you're not the only one without all the answers. I am also eagerly awaiting TwWAU, as soon as it gets released to stores. That's one I haven't even had a chance to look at yet, except for a couple of preview pages on the Spanish site.

Afaik Aeons are very powerful Beings Between Worlds (BbW), which embodies a very concept or idea. I.e. there is an Aeon of fire, an Aeon of storms etc. In this regard, they are similar to Titans of greek / roman mythology. They also share similarities with the Guradian Forces / Aeons of Square Enix Final Fantasy Franchise: You can forge a bond with them and summon them for one action like an incredibly powerful attack.

In case you ask: Yes, it's possbile to slay an Aeon, but in this case a new Aeon will form after some time as long as the concept or idea itself still exists. This new Aeon probably would look and act different - since it's another beeing - would it would still embody the essence of the idea / concept.

Some Aeons are listed in DE.

It's seems that there are also other Beings called Great Beast, which overlap in some cases with an Aeon. I.e. there are Great Beast that are also Aeons, but not every Great Beast seem to be an Aeon (and perhaps not every Aeon is a Great Beast). But for this I'd also like to read a definition :)
