Hello - New Player!

By Methos, in Dust Tactics General Discussion

Hey gang,

I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself as a new player to Dust Tactics (and eventually Warfare).

I just bought both the original Core set and the new Revised Core Set - so hopefully I will have enough to start playing some casual games with friends and build a community from there.

I am coming off of a pretty strong Warmachine kick (stalwart Cygnar player). I love the game and miniatures line from Privateer Press, but with all things, it's always nice to try something new.

I've read a great deal of reviews on Dust Tactics and it seems that it is really well received and has been positively reviewed just about in every article I could find. I've always trusted FFG's standard of quality so that has made my decision to try the game that much easier.

I currently play A Game of Thrones LCG and Rune Age (awesome game!!!) from the FFG lineup - so I am no stranger to FFG's amazing product quality and consistency.

I look forward to reading this forum and if anyone has any suggestions on how to make my intro into Dust Tactics even more enjoyable, I would love to hear your advice.

Peace,

Methos

Hey, welcome. I collect the game but don't really play. I think the mini's are fantastic but haven't been able to get my gaming friends to buy into this system. That may change when Warfare is released. I've bought just about everything that's been produced so far but was disappointed with the new core set.

Half the number of troops and Mech's, paper fold out playing sheets, all for $20 less than the original core set and you have to buy revised unit cards. I'll hang in until Warfare is released before making a decision to continue collecting and playing.

Overall I do like FFG but I think they missed the mark on this one. I still play Dust, Tide of Iron, BSG, Chaos in the Old World, Starcraft and Wings of War. I'm also looking forward to Starwars X-wing.

The Revised Core Set is light compared to the Original Core Set, but I would hardly say that FFG has missed the mark on this. It is 100% playable out of the box, it is less expensive than the original, and you get a decent mix of armor 2 and armor 3 troops, as well as too new walkers. If the Revised Core Set had been the same price as the Original, it would likely have had 4 walkers and 5 more troops; as it stands, it has 5 less troops and only 2 walkers. This is more than enough for a simple board game, and a decent intro for Dust.

I thought this was a post about how best to enjoy the system? If you want to enjoy Dust Tactics, you have everything you need to do so. Get the 2 command units and the 2 special ops and you are all set! Hope this helps

Hey, if you do not want your DT stuff, message me and I will buy it from you.

All I was saying is that I don't think the Revised Core Set was presented as well as the original set. I like the game and love the mini's.

Keep me in mind when you are ready to sell it all, that's all I am saying!

I just received my original CORE set (non-revised). WOW!!!

First impressions:

1. Huge - this box is HUGE!!! And I say that in a good way. Heavy and very substantial looking.

2. Fantastic presentation inside - everything is packed very nicely; each component has its own place and is secure.

3. Quality is FFG caliber - nice heavy (but thin) cardboard stock for the tiles and nice semi-gloss cover stock paper for the stat cards. Plastic is light, but sturdy.

4. Unit Models are nicely detailed and have waist articulation which is a nice dynamic. Walkers need to be assembled which is fine; there are some articulated smaller components that just add more realism to the designs.

I haven't even read the rules yet and I'm totally on board with this game. I can tell just by quality of materials, the presentation, etc - that this is a game that was manufactured with great attention to detail and with great care.

All of these factors, plus FFG's pedigree of high quality gaming make this one a no-brainer for me to stick with for a while.

I'm pretty **** excited. I haven't been regarding minis for a while...

Thanks to DUST - I think that will change.
