Oh no, not stew again!

I am creating a rough outline for things that a hearty adventure needs for sustenance. The good book says:

An average, active adventurer must spend 5 brass coins per day on food to remain fit and vigorous - this represents hearty stews, fresh or day-old bread, and other peasant fare. He must spend at least 3 brass coins per day to survive; any less and he begins to starve. Living below these thresholds imposes a one or two misfortune die penalty to all checks, respectively.

I want to also consider that the Reikland is one of the richest and most prosperous provinces in the Empire. This does not necessarily mean that peasants are doing much better here than elsewhere in the Empire but much like poor people have done through out the ages (and today) I imagine they bring their own food, do not own a riding horse and at the very most sleeps on the tavern floor or in a common room. If they do not sleep under the stars under their wagon or the like. On top of that pretty much everything can come in "poor" quality at half price.

Also, there really are no standard rates and innkeepers generally add a little (or a lot) to their prices if their customer look like they have the money to spend.

Thusly I came out with the following "equipment list" for the Reikland:

  • 2 brass coins for a mug of common ale
  • 3 brass coins for a plate of common food (soup, bread, stew, porridge etc.)
  • 4-5 brass coins for the cheapest lodging in a common, shared room.
  • 2-3 brass coins to sleep on the floor of the tavern
  • Half a silver to one silver for a simple but private room
  • 5-6 brass coins for stable and care for a normal riding horse (more than that for a knight's warhorse).

For reference I also include the following information:

Now, with all that said I am also interested to hear if people have come up with some sort of resource mechanic. It can be fun to be down on your luck or just starting out and counting every coin but after a while it can also get tedious and WFRP3 would probably lend itself well to something like a resource stat or the like.

I based everything on actual prices for WFRP3. Some improvisation was necessary.
