Hey guys, new to the game. I just started playing for over a month now and a few situations occured during some games and we were sort of stumped on what to do. I hope you can answer these questions so that when they come up in the future, we'll know what to do.

1. Dragon's Lair. The action states that I can search the top five cards of my deck for a Dragon unit and put it into play, then shuffle my deck. My question is do I still have to pay the resource cost of the dragon or does he enter play 'for free'?

2. Honor In Death. This card reads; Action. Sacrifice a unit to destroy to destroy target attacking unit. My question is does there have to be a unit defending in order to use this tactic, or can my opponent sacrifice any unit in any zone as cost to play the action?

3. Shield of Saphery. This card reads; Action: Target Elf unit you control cannot be targeted by opponent’s card effects until the end of the turn. My question is can I play this action after one of my elf units is targeted, thus negating the action. Or do I have to play Shield of Saphery on my elf unit before he is targeted, sort of as a preventative action.

#1: 'Dragons Lair' allows you to put a dragon into play for free. Otherwise the card would have specifically stated, "after paying all costs".

#2: The player playing 'Honor in Death' may sacrifice any unit he controls to destroy any attacking unit.

#3: 'Shield of Saphery' may be played in response to any card effect targeting a High Elf unit. If SoS is the last card on the action chain, it's effect protects the High Elf unit that was targeted.

3. The reason Shield of Saphery can protect a unit even after its targeted by something is that actions check their targets as they are played, and as they resolve. So the Shield makes the 2nd check fail.
