Moribund/Duplicates/Attachments

By alcz, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

So yeah, I got a pretty basic question that I wasn t able to answer after reading the basic ruleset or the FAQ.

Suppose that there is a character in game with a duplicate attached as well as one attachment of some kind.

Now that character becomes moribund in some challenge.

My question is as following:

1) Does this character lose its attachments before there can be a response to save him from going to dead pile (like using the duplicate), or does he keep the attachments until the response phase is over?

2) Suppose that the winning player has a claim of 2, if the character has a duplicate attached, do you have to remove only the duplicate or the character itself as well? Since the claim was 2, 1 for duplicate 1 for character.

3) And finally, suppose that the character has a duplicate but you save him with some other card, if the claim is 2, does that character lose the duplicate as well?

Finally, in all of the cases mentioned above at which point are the extra attachments removed (if they actually are lost)?

Thanks in advance!!

1. No. Your timing is a bit off here, though. When a character is chosen to be killed, it doesn't become moribund until after saves/cancels. If you save the character, it never becomes moribund.

2. You cannot choose the same character to die twice for the same effect, so you must choose two different characters to die for losing 2-claim MIL challenges. So in this case, it's one duplicate (assuming you choose to save the character) plus one other character.

3. Refer to answer 2.

Thanks for the answers guys, one clarification if possible in the case of the 2 claimed victory, if there is one character defending it just lose its duplicate or it is moved to the dead pile as well? (assuming there are no other characters in play)

You cannot choose the same character to die twice for the same effect, so you must choose two different characters to die for losing 2-claim MIL challenges. So in this case, since you cannot choose the same character twice, you only need to save it once. The other 1-claim just does nothing.

Look at it this way: what happens if you lose a 1-claim military challenge when you have 0 characters? Nothing, right? Because when you go to choose the 1 character to die, there are none to choose. Well, if you lose a 2-claim military challenge when you have 1 character, you go to choose 2 characters and there is only 1 to choose.

The rulebook says the following:

"High-claim Military Challenges
If, during a military challenge, the defending
player loses a challenge, and the attacking player
has a claim of 2 or higher, the defending player
must kill the required number of different characters,
all at once. Thus, the defender may not
choose to kill the same character multiple times,
even if that character could be saved."
