Suggestion: Customization Pack

By Nirnel, in Mansions of Madness

This is a suggestion for a product I would buy: a customization pack with material for creating homemade stories. This would include:

-Generic clue exploration cards (their text would be just 1A, 1B, 1C, 2A...)

-Generic lock, obstacle and exploration cards (with numbers and/or letters to differentiate them), and maybe mythos, and/or trauma cards with the same characteristics

-Generic event cards, with different time and order values

-Generic objective cards (labeled just A, B and C)

-A guide to customizing, including tips about difficulty of the objectives, the length of the story, the events (both content of the cards and time values). It could include new items, like nonlinear adventures (the investigators have to put together the pieces of a map, or an ancient amulet, or plainly having a room with both a lock and an obstacle), part of the layout of the tiles (such as the secret passage) depending on the decissions of the keeper (and so, he puts them when the characters find the corresponding clue), descriptions of the rooms so the clues don't have to point to a generic kitchen, bedroom or bathroom, but to the room where a certain picture is, or where they saw that strange mirror (which would be an interesting narrative tool)...

-[Edit (I forgot this)]: generic tokens for elements that can be in the house, like additional ladders (connected with the other ones or not), food, strange gems, medicines, red paint... anything that the creator of the adventure thinks can be useful in the story. They can be identified like the generic exploration cards

When creating homemade stories, the text that would correspond to each card (and descriptions of the rooms) would be written in a notebook, along with the information in the keeper's and investigators' guides. A deluxe edition can provide special notebooks for both keeper and investigators

Your thoughts?

You dont really need event cards, you can just place time tokens on something and count it as event deck. Same with objective.

It would be mostly an aesthetical purchase, I guess, at least in these cases :)

I could see that, but I'm not sure how viable it would be for FFG to make them. Although, if they decided to do that, they could make it a print on demand item.

They sell wooden tokens, flags for Battlelore... I don't think this would be very different. If the game sells well, it could be a decent product. Not so much if it doesn't

I'm on board with this, specifically if it had new cards that could be used for fan designed stories

I don't think they would, since they would be meant to work with the existing cards in the game, and PoD cards printings can look subtlely different, so when they do PoD supplement, all the necessary cards are reprinted as well so the backs of the cards all uniform . . . if they did this as a PoD, it would probably necessitate a much higher price point, as thy essentially would need to reprint most of the Small cards that came with the game.
