Looking for Balanced Beginner Decks for the Houses.

By Zephryl, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Well I've been learning how to play and practicing over OCTGN, but it's been pointed out to me a few times that the Core Decks aren't very well balanced.

Does anyone have any suggestions for some Decks that are more balanced? Preferably using just the Core Set cards if possible, I'd like to have a better grasp of the game before having to think about Shadows or Seasons.

Thanks!

To be honest, if you're only using 1 core set, then your options are pretty limited. although it does depend a bit on whether you're playing joust or melee. Switching the plot decks is one of the biggest things you can do - if you're playing joust, Condemned by the Realm is just a stupid card to play.

There are other minor tweaks you can make- consider switching Littlefinger from Lannister to Stark perhaps, he's a bit expensive for them to play, but the extra income he provides makes it well worth it.

Generally though, the +2 gold charge for playing cards out of house, and the lack of alliance or treaty cards gives you very few deckbuilding options with a core set - maybe try the clash of arms cycle, which has some useful cards without any major new mechanics, or even a more recent cycle like Brotherhood without banners, again few shadow or seasonal cards

Currently I'm stuck to using OCTGN, since getting a Core Set where I live is surprisingly hard.

I only Joust at the moment, but I was sorta hoping there were some pre-built decks I could use on agotcards.org or something. I can literally count the games I've played on one hand, and I don't even need a hand to count the games I've won. So at my current skill level I don't even remotely trust myself to build 4 fair and balanced decks.

Thanks for the advice though, I can remove the melee-oriented Plot cards, which should help a bit.
