Multiplayer Idea

By cuttingrage, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

A new idea for a multiplayer format occurred to me.

A player wins if any zone of his capital has not been attacked for X consecutive turns. For now, lets have X = 4. Effects that cancel damage to your capital do not count for now which is why I used "not attacked" and not "dealt damage".

I am worried about whether games will get too long, or if one deck will get too strong. I dont have a large player base here to test out my idea so I am posting it to see if other people like it and if I can get suggestions to improve it.

Myself and a few friends recently played 4 player, every man for himself game.

Rules were simple, roll a dice to see who starts, and then play passed clockwise around the table. No players had a Battlefield or Quest phase for the 1st turn and in order to eliminate a player from the game, you had to burn all three zones, but any player could attack any other player (and frequently did as no-one wanted to see one player get into too strong a position), and it's last man standing that wins.

Decks used were HE, DE, Orcs and Chaos.

Game time was approx 90 mins and the HE's won, but when the last damage was dealt to the Orc player, the HE's had 2 burning zones and about 3 hit points left in the final zone of his capital.

Easily one of my favourite times playing W:I.

I hope they release a multiplayer focused deluxe expansion soon.

My idea described above was to see if it was possible to have a "build up" type game instead of a "burn down" type game.

This sounds fun, and I agree that the issue of gang ups is over emphasized because usually people target their strongest opponent as in any ffa board game. But I would really like to see some sort of official team gameplay. Perhaps as you played but just 2v2. There's probably some other rules that would make it more balanced but really i dont think anything drastic would be needed.

I usually play 3 or more people, and we've tried many different variations.

Right now my favorite, and the easiest, has been a free for all. We play that you need all three zones to get burned in order to lose, but people who have decked themselves or had all three zones get burned can still play.

Getting kicked out of a big multiplayer game early is lame, and not fun at all. You'll end up with one person who misses half the game and just gets to sit and watch everyone actually having fun.

i haven t played many multiplayer rounds yet, but the two variants worked very well (only played it with 3 players):

-burn 1 zone of each opponent to win

- burn 3 zones to win, but you aren t allowed to burn 2 zones from a player in a row (if you burn a zone of opponent A fist, then u have to burn a zone of opponent B next, and then one of opponent 3

one thing i forgot: you don t loose if 2 or all 3 zones are burning

i think the first variant should work with 4 players, too
