Trying This Painting Nonsense

By vengeance000, in Dust Tactics

Hello! My name is Vengeance000! My first attempts at painting miniatures will be documented here. Be warned, this process will be painful. A couple things about me:

  • I have never painted a picture before, let alone army dudes
  • I have a horrible eye for color coordination
  • I have some giant clumsy hands

So here is my first squad pretty much done. Still need to varnish/seal it, and I'm really not sure how to go about that, so could be awhile...

Looks pretty good to me, I doubt I could do any better.

looks like youre already useing inks and highlighting. youre halfway there, youll be doing soft blends off a wet pallet before ya know it!

Haha, I'll have to get out a dictionary to understand that, but maybe!

Finished the ol' BBQ squad. My idea for painting these is to have them somewhat grounded in reality with their uniforms, but add a fun color to each army for some painting variety and fun.

For the Allies, I'm doing green and brown as their primary colors, but also adding blue accents here and there. On these guys I did bright blue armor, and a blue stripe down the middle of their helmets.

Sticking with the summer scheme, as white vs. whiter isn't the coolest battlefield.

Here's a closeup of the flamethrower dude. Click for larger image. Painted the tip of his flamethrower and the hose red, and did the backpack in a combination of silver and copper metallic.

Here's Bazooka Joe. Wanted his overalls to be blue jeans, to keep with my overall blue theme. They probably came out a little darker than I would have liked, but overall I'm happy with them. First eyes I've had to paint, but I think they came out good. Better than my Sigrid who I did right after and now looks like a googly eyed monster.

Final American squad painted! Click for larger image. Did dark blue outline on their pants, and also did the pockets in brown. Armor is sky blue like the earlier squad, but I tried out some edge highlighting on the armor and think it looks a little better. Getting much better on highlighting the pants too. Looks less like accidental camo now, and more like highlights.

Time for the Germans! I'm keeping with the normalish colors with one bold choice per model. For them it's black/grey, but with purple thrown in somewhere.

Sigrid! A green lazer and painted eyes! She was a tough lady to paint for sure, but thinks she came out quite awesome.

I like the paint color choices and the army theme color idea. I think i would have used blue on the axis though. They all look great.

Spent this morning and afternoon working on Marcus. Am very happy with the way he turned out. Made his energy backpack purplish pink to go with my Nazi themeing. Think he looks better even than the picture on the card.

Nice job they give me reason to get my army painted thanks for sharing.

I must admit I'm not a fan of your purple laser grenadiers, but the purple details on Markus turned out really great.

I love your paint jobs, very original and really well done for your first time.

Your Marcus is ****! Awesome job.
