Looking for 3-4 players for a Play by Post (PbP)

By Badlapje, in Rogue Trader

Greetings one and all,

i'm looking for 3-4 more players for a PbP i've recently started running. The PbP runs on a forum which i host: rpg.vanonderen.be/forum. It is set in the Koronus Expanse and has only recently started, however a few key characters have gone silent without informing me of the reason.

What i am looking for:

I am looking for a player who can be active for a long period to play the part of Rogue Trader. As a RT you need to be more active then most players, but you also get a bigger part in story development.

Also open are the slots of seneschal, missionary and astropath.

Style of the game:

The game is sandbox. I've a number of possible storylines prepared, but i prefer to have the players drive the direction of the game as much as possible. Of course, the Rogue Trader is generally very important in this respect.

Current status:

Currently the party just arrived aboard Port Wander as the Rogue Trader (who bailed) inherited command of the Pix Ebulae & the warrant of his family after his father died unexpectedly. The details of his death are still unknown as the PE is still a month out from Port Wander. The party consists of:

Miry, a void mistress and pilot extraordinaire.

Lorayne O'Neill, also a void mistress and pilot.

Gorn Summist, Navigator.

Gadradeus Sentrovixo, Arch-Militant

Casmirre, Arch Militant

Virgil Ionius, Explorator

The party will take the month at Port Wander to investigate the mystery of the Terra in Excelsis.

Character Creation:

You start at 7000 xp, rank 2.

You have three options:

1. roll your stats as per the CRB, you can assign the rolls freely as you want (tell me what roll you assigned to what stat though!) and get one reroll (reroll sticks though) if you desire.

2. you can start with one fate point and get 40 in each stat (before origin path)

3. you can start with one less fate point (detracted after origin path, min one fate point left) and use the 100 point buy method from the book.

Wounds, insanity and corruption are rolled by me. Fate/stats by the players using the pbe dice roller (more on that below). There is an option to use precursor careers from DH before building your RT character, if you are interested in that then send me a mail first.

You must have access to the Core RT Rule Book to play. I will not provide information from the book to anyone that hasn't acquired one. We have to
support the hobby after all. If you want to use Into the Storm stuff for your character its best to get a copy of that too.

Method for rolling and kind of characters that are allowed:

We use the PBE dice roller, and do the following to roll for characteristics and fate points:

About half way down the page you will find a number of fields.

First, enter your e-mail address in the first field.
Check or Uncheck "Reply to your address", your choice there.
Then enter [email protected] in the next blank field.
In "Summary of Rolls" type in 'Character Creation YOURCHARNAME'
This tells me its for character creation and what your character name is.
For "Show Results" click the 'BOTH' radio button.
We're only going to fill out the 'Roll One' and 'Roll Two' field sets.
For 'Roll One' type in Number of Rolls: 9, Dice Type: 2d10, Rolls per line: 9 and Comment: Characteristics
For 'Roll Two' type in Number of Rolls: 1, Dice Type: d10, Rolls per line: 1 and Comment: Fate
Go down to the bottom of the page and click on SUBMIT
Scroll down again after it refreshes and you should have a set of 2d10 rolls and a single roll for Fate points.
Thats it. Now read below and create your character.

Wounds, Insanity, Corruption and any other rolls not mentioned here for character creation are rolled by the GM and kept secret from other players
but shared with the player in quesiton.

Use the rolls to create your character.
Your character must be Rank 2 at 7,000 XP. This means you make a Rank 1 character (spend the 500xp you get to spend there if you wish). Than spend another 2,500 XP on the Rank 1 Skills and Talents as well as Characteristic Advances. Note that the 500 xp you spend during character creation in the origin path is part of the original 4500 xp your character has after the Origin path. So that leaves 2500 to spend in order to get to 7000 xp.

NOTES on creating a character:

Elite Advances require permission.

You may use any Origin, Career, Skill (assuming your career allows it) and Talent (assuming your career allows it) from the Rogue Trader Core book.
You may use any Origin, Career, Skill (assuming your career allows it) and Talent (assuming your career allows it) from Into the Storm that does NOT
pertain to xenos.

The grossly mutated, heretic(chaos filth)/heretek and xenos (especially eldar, kroot, ork) characters are not allowed at this time.

Characters with multiple mutations are subject to rejection without prejudice by the GM.

Your character starts with Career 'starter' equipment as written in the Core RT book. More equipment will be made available through a process
called 'The Equipment Ladder' which will allow the starting players to gather to themselves a few choice items and the esoteric stuff they think
they'll need for their career. Once the character is approved the GM will explain the 'Ladder' to the new player and the new player may make their
choices of starting equipment. After the 'Ladder' normal acquisition rolls through the Lord Captain and the Dynastic Profit Factor will apply.

If your character acquires Ship Points or Profit Factor points be sure to note them so that the points may be added to the group total.

There are any number of fillable character sheets on the web. Fill one out and e-mail it to me at [email protected] along with at least a
single paragraph (more is better if it makes sense and is coherent) of background story for your character as well as 'desired role' aboard
ship/in the Lord Captain's Retinue. I strongly promote the use of Memetix's character sheet to create your character as it simply rocks (see
the FFG forum about RT) and makes it easy for me to keep tabs on your development. If you use this sheet you'll get a bonus.

Sounds very interesting. though, is that in English, or in Flemish/ Dutch? (The only post taht can be seen by a guest on the forum is in Flemish or Dutch...)

How quick am I supposed to answer a post / how often am I expected to read the forum?

The game is in english. The forums were made for the RP-ing group that i'm part of in RL, which is why the welcoming post is in dutch. I'll have to change that, thx for pointing it out.

Posting frequency is hard to say. PbP's tend to have varying speeds depending on how RL allows people to post. It also depends on which character you play: a RT needs to post a lot more frequently then a navigator for example. If you can check twice/week then you should be good to keep up with the plot line for a normal character. If you can check more then your character can "do" more things that are central to him/her rather then the overall plotline.

For example: with two posts/week you could get a tour of the ship that sticks to the main parts. If you post more your character could go look around every nook and cranny meeting many more NPC's and generally getting more done (just one example to get the point across). Basically: the more effort you put into it as a player, the more i can throw at you as a GM, meaning if you have more time then normal you can post more and if you have less time you post less and get less things thrown at you (or if you're on a break just tell me and i can have you "tag along" for a while).

Can you tell us anything about the ship?

Will the Rogue Trader be a new character, or will the player just take over the old character (with new stats)?

For ease i'd prefer the latter, but the former can be done as well off course, in that case it'll just take a bit of creativity to work the character into the story.

The ship is a dauntless class light cruiser. As it's one month out from port at the moment no further details are known about it yet.

Hi Badlapje, I haven't posted in the forums for a long while, but I'd be interested in the Seneschal position.

Cornelious Dexter, Lord Sinister of the Markayn Marches, a noble of dubious history and qustionable sanity out to carve his name into the expanse (or some xeno hide). Profile to follow.

If theres still room would be interested to play Astropath's role.

The RT position is taken.

The seneschal & astropath position are still free, so routa-maa and MDMann please do feel free to submit a character concept to [email protected]

If one of the void mistressess would be willing to do a sex change and you're willing to let a rookie player in I'd love to play a Void Master. Really liked the description of that class.

Nice Badlapje.

Ramah Nostral, Astropath Trancendent, at your service. Just writing some background at the moment but going to send you the Dice Rolls soon.

Is it enough to send you the .rtc file? Im using Memetixs Character Sheet.

Hi Ghaudan,

I fear you are mistaken. The two void mistresses are actually active pc in the game-group. happy.gif

Ohhh, well that's what I get for being too fast on the trigger finger! Well in that case I'll have a look in the book when I get home and see if I find any others that looks like fun.

Alright, finally home from work and looked over the list! Senseshal it is, not a career I've ever considered, but that should make it even more fun. Wish me luck!

And now that character is done, he ended up a bit different then I thought he would (ended up being xenophile). The only thing I'm not happy with is the name, so if anyone have any good suggestions by all means.

PS: what's "lineage"? I couldn't find it in the rulebook, is it in the other book mentioned? If not give me a page and I'll look it up.

Looking good on the seneschals and the astropath, replied via mail.

Into the Storm, page 28. As for names, I go here and just keep making random ones till I get something that's fitting.

Do not have that book, do you consider it worth it? For a player that is (I just got the senshal accepted! :D).

I'd recomend it, lots of good extras all across the board. New backgrounds, new gear, new ships+ship gear, alt carears, orks and kroot, something for everyone. There are some fan reviews floating around places like dark reign, check them out for a more details.

I'd recommend it as well. For a player it is without a doubt the single best RT book to get after the CRB.
