Frozen Outpost

Frozen Outpost

We came upon this last night in a challenge in which the Targaryen attack, the Stark defend

WHAT WE DID

Framework action :
1- Targ player annonce a power challenge
2- Targ player choose one Dragon to attack

Player action :
Stark player kneel Frozen Outpost to stand a character and annonce that he’s the defender.

Framework action :
1- Targ player chooses Stealth target ; the newly standing Stark character
2- The Stark player do not kneel is newly standing character because of the Stealth

BUT WAIT THAT DOESN’T WORK

The Stark player cannot choose a defending character during is Player action since he’s suppose to do it in the Framework action, after the Stealth target have been picked.

THE NEW INTERPRETATION

We thought that maybe the « stand 1 defending character », apply to a kneeled character that was use in defense in a previous challenge. Stand him and use him in a future challenge either as an attacker or a defender.

Aaaargh ! So how/when to use Frozen Outpost and what was suppose to happen in our first challenge ?

declare attacks
player action window
apply stealth
player action window
declare defenders
player action window
resolve the challenge

Frozen Outpost (if I remember correctly, I use this card a lot) will work on defending characters to stand and pump their str. So you can't use it to bring knelt characters into the challenge. You need to actually have them in the challenge first, otherwise they are not "defending" characters. The FAQ has really good flowcharts and FAQs on this stuff.

So the dragon's stealth would prevent a character from participating as a defender, and then you would need to choose another character to use, and use frozen outpost on that character.

Its basic use is that you can defend with a character, say Greatjon Umber. Then use Frozen Outpost to give him +4 str and stand him (while hes defending) to defend at 7 or 8 str, I forget if he is 4 or 3. Now, thanks to Frozen Outpost you have a strong standing defender than you initially had. So you can use him to defend another challenge since he is now standing (without the bonus strength) or you can use him to go on challenges against other people (without the bonus strength). Nom sayin?

There's no player action window there.

Anyhow, the defender uses Frozen Outpost in the player action window between the framework action windows for stealth/declaring defenders and challenge resolution.

So, from what has been said, are you understanding Frozen Outpost a little better? You can only use it on a character that is currently defending. You cannot use it in any way to increase the number of characters you have available to defend. In short, you declare the defender, then use Frozen Outpost - before the challenge you just declared the defender in resolves. You will never use Frozen Outpost, and then declare the defender.

Now THAT makes sense!

And in all that I've also learned that a standing character can attack/defend

Thank you very much.

This is important to note. Once a character is participating in a challenge, it is only removed from the challenge by an effect that specifically does so. Standing a character or removing icons from a character does not remove that character from a challenge in which it is already participating.
