It’s a fun deck first and foremost. The idea is to put your opponent on a clock. Either they attack you and run headlong into a Darkness Blade on their turn; or they wait until you have Scarf+BustaCap+ChinaBox+Malfunction+Ruin when you Darkness Blade-Spike them on your turn for game. When you have these tools out and you hit a Darkness Blade E, there’s not much they can do.

Defensively you have Rejection, plus BustaCap/ChinaBox/Prowess tricks.

You also have an entire deck of 4+cc’s barring 7 cards. Bizarrely this makes your topdecking very, very good; provided you always hit a 1>0>2>1 style difficulty curve on your first turn (substitute with 1>3>2>1 dependant on draw).

In the original draft from a few weeks ago, cards have changed but the strategy has stayed the same. Human Weapon of Steel seemed to be very needed (symbol/difficulty). Ayame’s Scarf also can be very fun and generate you the Spike momentum in a pinch.

Huge Wrestling Army is the only Earth splash. Yes... both Amy's and Blinding Rage are excellent candidates and Amy's especially would probably be a better fit. I really wanted to try out Huge Wrestling Army and see what the card did. Overall the cycling it offers has been very useful and the damage pump has made the difference in some games. Huge Wrestling Army is very useful and will probably go in multiple decks in the future... but yes, Amy's would probably have been the better fit here.

The real star of the deck has to be Darkness Blade. Through testing this card with Mika, I have been absolutely astounded by Darkness Blade’s effectiveness. With the amount of E’s you can throw out and a little imagination (other, non-useful E’s such as Mika’s on your own attack), Darkness Blade has tapped down entire staging areas. Darkness Blade + E’s + Empire’s Ruin = a seven speed attack with a tapped staging area. Strangely Darkness Blade has worked so well, the number of copies has increased to a playset while Feline Spike was decreased to just three copies.

Wonderful deck Matt. I always enjoy reading your deck list. You are imaginative and think outside the box. Also just curious do you hope to attend worlds or any other big events this year?

Drat. Also I forgot to add. Why no gorgeous team? is it that you didn't think the deck could handle another 3+ diff card? My thinking is that G-team with shooting is simply too good both offensively and defensively.

Edit - I found the edit button. Just also started wondering why no aquakinesis or other water card draw? Also how do you gain the momentum necessary for spikes?

I'm guessing Ayame's Scarf is the momentum generator. He does bring up a good point though about Aquakinesis - solid card draw is excellent, particularly when you throw cards away for Dormant for Millions of Years from time to time. With Bitter Rivals/Saikyo/other discard, I'd have thought you'd be hard pressed to maintain a hand.

Then again, Selfless Giving with Darkness Blade is essentially E: draw 1 card...

Going to attempt to try multiple quotes, not sure if it'll work.

Thanks Paul, that means a lot, especially given your VERY left field decks (Juni at Worlds...).

Should definitely be at Indy this year, currently I'm in the process of sorting it all out. I'd also love to get to Origins this year but that's a bit more 50/50 (depends heavily on work). GenCon is a resounding YES though!!!

The three of you will definitely be at Worlds, right?

Yes, it was the 3 diff with Gorgeous Team. It was also to try to steer more towards holding attacks in an opponents turn, rather than Rejection. Shooting Cap + ChinaBox is probably my favourite Cap combo, followed by Shooting Cap + Battle Prowess or Shooting Cap + Hybrid Style.

Lately, when testing some other Water decks - Lizardman, Huitzil, Juni (both Juni & Huitzil as Water/Order hybrids); Gorgeous Team has been losing it's slot to Program Malfunction and ChinaBox. I've still run it, but it's now down to about the fourth choice for 3 diff (after Malfunction, ChinaBox and SoC).

The Gorgeous Team recursion is great with Shooting Cap and Rejection combo's, but I've been finding the tradeoff of taking one attacks worth of damage, especially if you're running Battle Prowess and/or Amy's, is worth the Shooting Cap extra use of ChinaBox even more than Gorgeous Team. With the ammount of commit available and Shooting Cap, it's very easy now to kill with just Plasma Beams and Circuit Scrappers for your attack slots. In this kind of setup I've been finding Empire's Ruin to compliment the commit very well, as when an opponents base is fully committed, Ruin puts the attack's speed outside of block range.

I haven't really tested out Aquakinesis yet. It looks fantastic, especially with a Plasma Beam setup. Will give them a go in the Void event and probably add it to the list of staples. I could easily see Aquakinesis replacing Dormant for Millions of Years in a Water/Order lineup, between Kinesis, Tenacious, Prog Malfunction and ChinaBox there's a lot of synergy with Order. Dormant does provide you with Earth synergy though (Dormant, Battle Prowess, Prog Malfunction). Hmm... gonna have to test this...

I'm less enthused with Selfless Giving than Aquakinesis. You could run them both... but Kinesis just seems better.

Scarf was the generator, but the "sit back, generate momentum then Spike" is a fallback plan. The primary plan is Darkness Blade on their turn, board tap them, deal damage with Blade which goes to your momentum, then either Blade or Spike on your turn for game. Against most 7hs, two Darkness Blades will win the game. Against anything 26 or less, a Darkness Blade (their turn), Spike multiple 1 your turn will be game.

It was originally more Spike orientated but as things have gone on, Darkness Blade has been proven to be far more useful. Darkness Blade randomly meta's Chun Li and seems to deal with much of the meta out there.
