The Most Commonly Used Components Deck

By Gitzman, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

So after running serveral games now, i've determined that i need to have a set of commonly used components always at hand. Every adventure has them (Certain location cards, certain NPCs, certain actions, etc)

Obviously each adventure will be custmoized but the core group of components always seem to see some action so isntead of putting them away every time and digging them out again, i want to build the base cards deck.

So i was hoping i could call on the community to help build a set or cards that are the most commonly used.

LOCATION CARDS:

  • Old Dirt Road
  • Tavern (rowdy of otherwise)
  • Forest
  • Market Square

NPC ACTION CARDS: (maybe i'll create a basic NPC action card page for Humans, or other creatures)

  • Need help here

NPC/MONSTER CARDS

  • Merchant
  • Noble
  • Ruffian
  • Commoner
  • Soldier

Thanks for your thoughts!

I've my cards at our gaming place, so all I can remember is the Crumbling Ruins and Burning House. At least in our games Burning House is a must. :D

General hint:

I had collectible card pages (those with 9 pockets). I put three "creatures" of each "group" into one page and collected six commonly usable cards under them. I also made sure that each of those creatures (that included humans too) would be in the same stance. If it was possible I put three different createres on the other side of the page so they could use the other stance of cards. And when not suitable I just put another card to cover the unsuitable one.

I have to second the burning house...

What a giant pack of pyromaniacs.

I'd be more inclined to have the "deck" handy, rather than a whole book, since I like to keep a decent amount of stuff behind my shiny GM screen.

That said, I've been meaning to talk to people about table layout in their games. What's your ideal setup?

My game setup isn't trivial - as I'm sure it isn't for many of us out there.

On the table: (table is nearly full)

  • Dice bowl with dice-tower-ish device that keeps dice pools from splattering all over the table.
  • Party sheet (located near the dice tower)
  • Player's components: They use the standard character sheet, career sheet to slot talents, their deck of personal action cards (not the summary sheet), with a little bit of extra area for laying cards if need be, and splaying wounds, corruption, fatigue, stress, etc. Writing utensils.
  • My notes
  • Area for placing trackers (initiative mostly) and standups if we need to determine distances in a complex fight.

On a side table (next to me):

  • I use a deck holder (http://www.innovatiuminc.com/html/product_detail_0.html) to store: Wound cards, Status Cards (I have them memorized, so I pull them out when I need them), Insanity cards, Disease/Mutation decks. I also keep NPC cards (and related NPC action cards together) in several decks - picking and choosing what I need if the appropriate encounter comes up. The rest of the cards are stored (I rarely use location or item cards - unless I have planned to use them ahead of time).
  • Some NPC standups that I might need during the game. The rest are stored.
  • Plastic bases for the standups
  • Corruption tokens, campaign/rule books as needed (the rest are on an easy to reach shelf.

To answer the OP: I have components that I think I will use for a game, and I take them out and keep them ready - I typically use less than half of them though - tis the nature of the game I suppose.

Good tip on the card sorter box for all games!

I find Office Max has some great stuff to help save some space on the "GM's Table" so to speak.

I have a side table for all my GM stuff, including this to put all my career cards in: www.officemax.com/catalog/sku.jsp

Also a double-wide version of this: www.officemax.com/catalog/sku.jsp to hold the relevant small decks that I can grab for easy access.

Both of the above help save a ton of room. The only components of mine, as the GM that I keep on the players' table is the wound deck and any Creature Cards and abilities for them I need.
