Roy Doltrice

By Mykel The Vile, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I first watched the HBO Series then, due to my driving up and down the country a lot for my job I choose to listen to the narration of the book series read by Roy Doltrice as opposed to reading the books. I've currently just started listening to Book 3 " A Storm Of Swords"

Anyway, I went back to the HBO series and started to re-watch again and, this is no critisism to HBO, but some of the acting form some of the characters just felt wooden and lack lustre compared to the magic of Roy Doltrice's narration.

Lord Baelish is a good example, Aidan Gillen does a fantastic job as Littlefinger but for me Roy Doltrice's interpretation is so much better.

I love the HBO series but for me Roy has brought the books to life more than the latter.

Roy is a legend.

Yeah - he really is. Still - i think the cast of teh HBO adaptation did a fine job. Hoping DInklage wins an Emmy - even if it is for playing a filthy Lannister.

I don't know who I heard narrate, but he was monotone and boring. I couldn't get very far in it.

You will be able to enjoy Roy Dotrice in the next season of Game of Thrones as Pyromancer Hallyne.

Its funny because I heard an awful narration to start with and it nearly put me of listening as an audio book, but then I stumbled on the official one with Roy and its just completely brough the books to life.

I suppose that combining George R R Martins words spoken through Roy Doltrice just makes it a hard act to follow.

I love the HBO series though.

Notable for me were Harry Lloyd, Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey, Iain Glen and Jack Gleeson.

I thought Jack Gleeson played a brilliant take on Joffrey.

Honestly, I cannot STAND some of the voices Roy uses for certain characters. Take for example his rendition of Davos Seaworth, feels completely wrong to me.
