Questions about Attacking/Defending.

By Frankyboyy, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

Hi, I have 2 questions about attacking and defending.

1. Yesterday I had my battlefield damaged 7/8 and I had 2 units on it. Nothing was burning on my side. My friend decides to attack my battlefield with everything he got. So he declares attackers and when I saw that I would die anyway, I said "No, I'm not defending, my battlefield takes all the hit points". The question was, can I do that? After his turn, I putted a black dragon rider, I boost him up and I decided to attack with my 3 units on my battlefield and with that, I won the game because I dealt 9 hits to his quest zone.

2. So after this move, my friend asked me, can you really say you don't want to defend? Because for exemple, if my battlefield is burning and I have 5 units on it. My opponent decides to clear some units on my battlefield. He declares his attackers and I say no I don't want to defend. So all my units survive and my battlefield was already burning so nothing happen?

Thank you for your answers and sorry if my english is bad, it's not my first language.

I honestly dont think you have to. the rules say that you can allocate as many defenders as you wish in a zone under attack. So if you choose 0 that is on you.

sorry for double post

As far as I know, that´s correct. You can choose not to defend, to keep your units. No rulle or FaQ states that the defender must try to stop damage from getting to his capital. And if it did, a great part of strategy would be lost.

Frankyboyy, you played this correctly. The rules are very clear on this. From the rulebook, p. 12:

3. Declare Defenders
The defending player now decides which of his units
in the attacked zone (if any) are going to participate
in the battle to defend the zone. Only unit cards in the
attacked zone can be declared as defenders. The defending
player may allocate as many units in his zone
as he wishes to defend.

"if any" & "as many units" means you can choose to allocate/declare 0. In effect, this is an important tactic to let one zone burn and then focus on the counter attack.

Ok thank you everyone for your answers! But it's stupid that if my battlefield is already burning I can mass an army there and the other player cannot kill it except with tactic cards.

If your battlefield is burning...you're halfway to losing. You better be able to "mass an army" there.

If the zone is burning, does it still continue to function unaffected?

Yes.

It's just one step to the victory for your opponent.

Thanks for your answer Shindulus. One step closer to mastering the game!
