Most useful starting Telekinetic Power?

By Necrozius, in Dark Heresy

Hey there fellow Throne Agents,

Simple question: which Telekinetic Power do you think is the most useful, all around (not specifically for combat)?

Background:

My Psyker is about to purchase a Psy Rating of 6 and I'm planning on starting a new Discipline: Telekinesis.

The character already excels in Telepathy all around (mastery, focus etc...), but I wanted to get into something new.

Which Telekinetic Power would you consider to be the most useful, all around? Not necessarily just in regards to combat - although the force sword is AWESOME, I'd rather start off with a power that could be practical in a more general sense.

What do you folks think of Precision Telekinesis?

Hm, 35 views and no replies, heh.

Has anyone any tips for being a successful Telekinetic Psyker? Which power would you recommend getting first?

I'm not especially experienced with psykers but I think this really comes down to a simple matter of what you feel your character needs:

Ranged power: Force Barrage - Very nice damage but a fairly high threshold. If you want pure shooting damage it can be fantastic.

Melee power: Psychic Blade - If you're willing to risk melee combat, and lapses in concentration, this power should serve you very well.

General utility: Telekinesis - Fantastic for utterly straightforward, nondescript jobs.

Tactile utility: Precision Telekinesis - High threshold but it essentially allows you to use Willpower for any physical task and certainly has scope for creative use.

Defence/Support utility: Catch Projectiles - Self defence: Check. Setting up shields for allies: Check. Potential for getting you riddled full of holes: Check.

I'd say the key question is whether you want a power that offers utility out of combat or not.

I find that at high levels such as yourself that Psychic Blade to be devastating and I use it alot myself when playing my Templar Calix Psyker. Precision Telekenesis is wonderful is so many ways as well. It really does depend on weather your Psyker is scholistic or militaristic or a bit of both. Balnce what you have and what you can or wish to acheive. And especially, how you define your character.

When you already have two other schools and you feel like youre set for combat i would go for Precision Telecinetics, its such a nice ability (and with a bit of creativity you also can use it in combat :D ) with a broad spectrum of possibilities.

Cool, thanks for the tips, guys/gals.

Precision Telekinesis seems to be very useful. Any of you use it in any particularly clever ways?

My first thought was disarming foes, but one needs an actual Talent for that, strangely enough.

EDIT: My psyker has Tech-Use +20. Do you think that she could mess around with people's guns at a distance? Basically jamming them? Or detaching power packs? Things like that?

If it's not too late to leap in...

Weapon Jinx (minor power) is the one to use for jamming weapons. It has been erratad (no longer affecting general tech beyond guns) but is still superb. Do you not have that already, being Psy 6?

Your GM would need to make a ruling on the powerpack issue. I believe Precision Telekinesis uses your Willpower where a different stat would be called for (e.g. Strength to rip the wires out), so perhaps it would go along the lines of a Tech-Use check to know which wire to detach, then maybe a WP test to see if you can yank the thing out successfully (after manifesting the power in the first place).

I have to say, after a couple of years playing a Telekine from the ground up, Precision Telekinesis was never my most-used power. Force Barrage is super for pummeling enemies who aren't too tough or well-armoured (since it has no penetration). It also becomes rather good at Ascension level, along with the aforementioned Psychic Blade (though it's worth keeping the errata for that in mind, given you can end yourself or a comrade with a bad roll).

My best use of Precision Telekinesis was whipping someone's dataslate out of their pocket and dropping it into the waiting hands of my Assassin comrade. Due to my immense unsubtlety, the person noticed this happening and immediately screamed WITCH and went charging after the unfortunate Assassin while I walked off whistling.

Precision Telekenetics + Grenades - Grenade Pins = Explosive Fun! demonio.gif

I unquestionably endorse catch projectiles. Can save yourself, save allies, etc. One of the absolute best things about being a psyker.
