Advice on which packs to pick up from local sale?

By dboeren1, in CoC General Discussion

A local store is clearing out some CoC packs for a good discount. It's more than I probably want to pick up at one time, so I'm wondering if anyone has some suggestions on prioritizing them. Here's what they have:

Silver Twilight box
Madness and Horror:
Spawn of Madness
Dreamlands:
In Memory of Day
In the Dread of Night
The Search for the Silver Key
Journey to Unknown Kadath
Yuggoth Contract:
The Spoken Covenant
Screams from Within
Rituals of the Order:
Aspirations of Ascension
The Gleaming Spiral

The packs I already have are:

2xStarter boxes
Secrets of Arkham box
The Antediluvian Dreams
Whispers in the Dark
The Cacophony
Perilous Trials
The Shifting Sands

They also have a starter box, and I may pick up a 3rd eventually, but I feel like I'd rather flesh out my collection with some more variety of different cards first.

Thanks for any advice!

I'd likely start with the Silver Twilight box, thent he latest Asylum Packs from the Rituals cycle, then go backwards and get stuff that complements the sets you already have. If you're looking for stuff for specific factions, though, that might change what APs you want to pick up. If you're not interested in the ST stuff, for example, then they are probably not worth picking up at this time.

Not sure on Silver Twilight yet... I haven't really looked at them much or played against them, but from what I understand they're still in the process of being fleshed out and they look like a tricky faction to play, maybe not well suited for beginners?

Last night I went through all the card packs and basically made a list of "interesting" cards from each one that I liked with the idea that I'll use these to help prioritize them. Packs with more cards I really want to try will be ranked higher.

I would prioritize the sets that are in 60 card or x3 of everything format. With the older APs you could check to see if the x1 cards are ones you will eventually want x3 and prioritize them as lowest.

Anything that turns out to not be the modern 3x card version just won't get purchased at all. There's no way any sale could be enough that it's worth buying three packs instead of one pack at normal discount levels or even full retail.

All their packs from the Dreamlands cycle ended up being the old 40-card ones, but everything else was good. So, I ended up picking up the Silver Twilight box and five card packs. My collection is rapidly filling out!

Going to need to look at upgrading my storage though. I have a 2" 3-ring binder full of baseball card sheets and it's pretty much full at this point. Might need to divide it in half - one for human factions, one for mythos factions?

Still working on finding a chance to teach the game to a friend of mine.

After the Rituals of the Order cycle would have been a nice point to stop buying cards: With Spawn of Madness there were exactly 800 cards in the LCG (although, unfortunately two of them are duplicates). But who am I kidding - I'll probably continue buying cards until the game is canceled lengua.gif

Yeah, I'm planning on picking up all the packs they choose to do. There's still a good amount of older packs I need to pick up, but I expect that I'll be finished sometime in the spring if they've got Dreamlands done by then.
