Question

By beazel, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I have a question. In RTL when the party enter a dungeon level, the overlord place the minions anywhere except in the red-shaded portions indicatet in the quest guide map.

My problem is with this words... "as when revealing a new area, the overlord may ignore hero line of sight, and abilities that interfere whit spawning."

1) when i enter the dungeon the overlord can play spawn cards near the heroes ? I mean, during the turns ,the overlord can spawn some beastmen near my wizard (ignoring line of sight.)? The overlord said that he can spawn monsters anywhere he wants on the map (paying 15 threat for fliping the marker and ignoring the heroes line of sight).

The Overlord cannot play Spawn cards and ignore hero line of sight. This rule refers ONLY to the figures that are placed on the map initially (for Road to Legend dungeon cards, the Overlord has a choice of up to four different sets of "starting monsters" for each dungeon, labeled A, B, C and D, printed in the quest book beside the map of the dungeon in question. THOSE monsters can be placed anywhere, ignoring line of sight, just not in the red shaded area. THOSE monsters are not being Spawned.

Any monsters that come off the Overlord's Spawn cards are, by definition, being spawned, and they are subject to all the normal restrictions on spawning, such as not being in hero line of sight.

Just to be clear, the Overlord CANNOT spawn monsters while setting up the dungeon level (or revealing a new area in the larger dungeons.) That "revealing a new area" mechanic happens outside the normal turn sequence, generally as soon as a hero gains line of sight to the new area (which is equivalent to entering the new level in AC dungeons.) The Overlord can only play a spawn card (ONE spawn card) at the start of his turn, and new areas are rarely revealed at that time. Even if they were, they would interrupt the start of his turn to do the reveal and then resume afterwards.

Thank you very much!

Since i started playing the expansion RTL, i have been encountering some problems.

Now i want to ask :

This item from copper treasure "Gauntlets of Power" -> All of your attacks gain the ability: (surge)(surge): recover 1 fatigue .

When i make an attack (i have the axe equip on me -> (surges):1 damage), and i have 4 surges to spend : a) i make 4 damage and recover 2 fatigue from "gauntlets of power"?. OR b) i make 2 damage and recover 1 fatigue.?

My question is, that the gauntlets of power ability applies in the same time with other weapon or does it applies separately?

The card is worded "all of your attacks gain the ability..." because the item adds the ability "(surge)(surge): recover 1 Fatigue" to the attack. It is not used separately, mostly because in Descent there are no abilities outside combat that require to spend surges.

When you roll the dice, you count the total surges and decide how to spend them. You can convert them into damage thanks to the Axe, or recover fatigue thanks to the Gauntlets, in ANY combination.

4 surges means:

1) 4 damage

2) 2 damage, recover 1 fatigue

3) recover 2 fatigue

or even other combinations, if there's a reason why you wouldn't spend all your available surges.

While the answer above is correct in general, it is not correct for the Gauntlets.

FAQ entry, pg. 2 :

Gauntlets of Power (a copper treasure in Altar of Despair):

Replace the text on Gauntlets of Power with the following:
"All of your attacks gain the ability: Exhaust Gauntlets of Power and pay (surge, surge) to Recover 1 fatigue."

So you can only recover 1 fatigue per turn, the card refreshes as usual at the start of your next turn.

Right, I forgot about the FAQ. It was ruled this way to counter the overpowered combo with Rapid Fire.
