Whos really in charge?

By Tunnelhckrat, in Deathwatch

We had a heated debate over our last game as when finishing a mission. The Inquisitor tried to force a mindwipe on us. Needless to say none of our PCs were very happy and told the inquisitor no way in hell. I Thought deathwatch was a mutual effort on the part of many organisations, one not above the other. What would you guys had done in that situation?

Not the Inquisitors. Its spelled out pretty good in the fluff about Erioch. The death watch was created with the same goals and mission in mind as the ordo xenos, and the death watch is given all the privlages and authoritative clout an Inquisitor would, but its the Astartes watch commanders and below them the kill-team members who have first and final say on what the death watch does and doesn't do. Death Watch members are essentially space marine Inquisitors, if thinking of it that way helps any.

The old 3rd edition fluff indicating many, but not all, kill-teams usually fell under the authority of an Inquisitor has been either: 1: totally retconned to match the political situation between space marine's and the Imperium at a whole. Or 2: One could easily come to the understanding, with the current background, the authority described was not so much command authority but rather a representation the Ordo's intrests as per the agreements of laid down in the Death Watch charter.

Either way you look at it, especially when comparing the considerably more in depth background given now compared to the vague 1-liner backgrounds of older editions, the Death Watch is commanded by its space marines. Inquisitors provide intel, support, knowledge, peer/contact networks, and even sometimes missions the death watch members simply can't ignore, but they can't order the death watch around.

If it was an Ordo Malleus mission it is typical inquisitor responce, as far as it flying it is different... was there a Grey knight involved? If so, then The GK would be the one pushing for it usually.

And this coudl either leed to an issue between both orgs...

If the inquisitor is clever (and most are) he doesn't just go saying "You're gonna be mindwiped". He instead goes to the watch captain, tells him why it is so important that the kill team is mind wiped and the wc then decides what's done without the kill team being told in advance.

good role play.

ether go over the party leader head and get the W captain or W commander too sign off on it.

or try and convice the party leader why its nessesary too be mind wiped. there are things ppl realy shouldn`t know

ps SM mind wipe only come about with deamons becaus nobody is suposta know about deamons

pps the ][ and the DW are seprate things that more or less have the same goal (speaking of the ordo xenos and the DW) but do so on difrant levels and sometime co-op too better serve the over all plan.

i seam too remember a note in the core about one of the DW commanders becoming a ][ himself (a very rare thing indeed) ][ has power too tell them what too do. DW what the power too say no or plan on how they want too do it

like say resove prolem on planet x with race 248# they could bom it or go down and talk or any number of other things that would be up too the DW

you still have too do what is orders its just how you do it you have a say it

sorry i just saw how long this was.. personaly i would try and roleplay it out and make them see that its needed. if its real isnt and he just want too mind wipe them too keep some personal thing hidden, then **** him and if you realy don`t like him shoot him he is waisting resorces that could be uses someplace els
