Withering Workout

By glasswalkerx, in Blood Bowl: Team Manager

How do u interpret this Chaos Team Upgrade "Withering Workout". The issue is, u do not exhaust it so can u use it each time one of your players are ejected or is it one player a scoreboard phase (if so, why do you not just exhaust it). If u can use it once per matchup that card is really powerful, but that is the way I am leaning. Anyone else have an opinion?

The Chaos team has a LOT of cheaters. It's not unusual for more than one to be ejected during a Scoreboard Phase. (Or, at least it isn't unusual when I'm playing Chaos). You exhaust the card when used during the Scoreboard Phase so you won't use it for more than one player.

The card doesn't say to exhaust but does say to use for 1 player at a matchup during the scoreboard phase. For ease of fairness we have ruled it to mean you only get to use it once, because that seems to fit with the flavor of most other cards plus the other 1 of once per matchup seemed to make the card pretty powerful.

But I think this is one we'll need an official answer for and I'm going to send in an email for clarification.

We are leaning the same way as a house rule, once per scoreboard phase, but i really think it is each match up during the scoreboard phase.

Came across this one today and I agree that it's one use per Scoreboard phase. Too powerful otherwise. Also, you need to remember to resolve the highlights in order because the decision to use the Workout needs to be made before you move on to the next highlight.

It would be great to get an official ruling on this. We played our first two games today and used the card in a way that it can be used once per highlight. That way it IS very powerful, but all the other "use only once" cards say "exhaust" and that one doesn't, so we figured it IS a very powerful upgrade.

There is only one scoreboard phase and you can use the upgrade on 1 player during the scoreboard phase.

I don't have the card handy, could someone post the exact text written on the card so we could dissect it. As non-native English speakers we seem to have understood the card text differently from most of you guys.

What I don't get is if the card was meant to be used only once per scoreboard phase, why there is no exhaust?

Withering Workout

Scoreboard Phase: After 1 of your players is ejected, draw 1 card from your Team deck. Place the drawn player standing at the matchup where your player was ejected. (The drawn player cannot use his skills.)

Looking through the other upgrade cards, there is no Scoreboard Phase card that requires you to exhaust in order to activate the ability. However, the other cards specifically call out "At each matchup..." before giving you the benefit. This card does not call out each matchup like the others, and instead calls out the use for 1 individual player. I agree that the Exhaust keyword would have eliminated the confusion, but because the language is so different from the other upgrades I would have to side with the once per Scoreboard Phase group.

For me it's obvious this card triggers *every* time one of your players is ejected. There is no exhaust cost and no written limit on the number of times is can trigger. It's similar to the "when you are the ball carrier at a matchup" cards, it's a trigger that triggers on your player being ejected.

The reason why it's not specifying "for each matchup" is that it can trigger *more than once* per matchup.

A little overpowered if you can use it every match up or more than once a match up. It takes most of the downside away from the cheat skill.

I doubt that's what FFG intended.. but it IS an accurate interpretation based on the card wording. Fortunately, in my playgroup, we're all agreed that it's only usable once per scoreboard phase.

It'll be interesting to see the FAQ on this and a few other issues.

Well only for make a comment:

I have this card for 3 weeks in game time and with a lot of cheat tokens (in a matchup two of my players have 3 each) and non of them was ejected!!!

lol

I've run into this too. From a full cheat token pile there is only a 20% chance of drawing the whistle.

I prefer to use this card several times during the same week. With the Chaos Team, I had a maximum of 2 players ejected during the same week, and both of them replaced by Linemen. We are far from an overpowering effect.
