Hardcover warping?

By pduggan, in Dark Heresy

I was looking over the new FFG hardcovers in a gamestore, and all the covers had significant warping (concaave towards the inside)

Is this just an anomaly of the store I was looking at, or is the problem more widespread?

I had this problem as well with DOTDG. Not sure if it was that way when I picked it up, or if it happened on my way home...IN -16 C COLD! Probably the cold.

After a bit of finagling and extreme ammount of use it is almost completely flat again. YAY!

My DotDG did that too. I attributed it to the extreme cold as well. I figure once it spends some time crushed together on a book shelf it'll sort itself out. The spind and pages all seem to be in good shape.

Same here but it's easy to get it back into shape using some weights to flatten it. I guess it's due to transporting/storage.

The ruinous powers of the warp did it...

My DotDG has a perfectly good cover (minus some banged-up corners thanks to Amazon). Unfortunately, the binding sucks, and there's already a 4 cm tear in the front coverfold that was there since it arrived. I guess I can't complain though, I got a copy of the FF DH book for $5.00 from my FLGS since the binding was totally shot, so it all works out...

Such a blasphemous tome has no doubt the taint of Chaos

Mine has spontaneously done the same. It was straight when I bought it. Two days later it was bowed. No big deal really. I have the other books crushing it back into compliance with the Emperor's rules of proper binding. gran_risa.gif

I don't have such problem with DoTDG, but binding of the core book is just terrible. The body of the books started to tear from the spine on the second week, and my first copy (already replaced) from amazon came completely detached from the covers. I don't know where FF do the binding, but they should consult Wizards how to bind books. sad.gif

Just recieved my copy of DotDG and it's all good. Quite glad it's in hardcover. My only problem is with the core book, but I think that is because the pages are just too heavy to read the book without a table or lap beneath it. Nothing wrong with a book being so dense the binding has trouble holding it. :)

I'm hard on my game books anyway so I'm not too worried about it.

Same here for Dark Gods. I thought I did something to it but apparently not as I am not the only one to have this problem.

My other books are soft cover.

I've been looking for a copy of the FFG version of the core, but at every store that carries it, the cover is horrible mangled and warped. I can't imagine them trying to sell that book at a discount let alone for full price.

We've had issues with it as well, and not at just one local store.. My buddy was on TDY in Vegas and all the books hard covers at that store from DH were warping, then we went to Charleston SC and checked out for a couple books there and theirs were warping too. Hate to say, somewhere in the process of making / shipping the books there is something happening or one Distrib maybe is mis handling them or something. 1 of our books is flating out from weight, the other hard cover core's cover split in the middle almost top to bottom a couple nights ago. We love DH, but the group is not currently willing to add to the collection till we can find a place to buy them thats not damaged, which hurt my standing to make DH a regular game for us.

There are some great tips for dealing with broken covers as far as making your own cover here on the site, but I think FFG needs to look into why there are so many damaged copies leaking to stores and hunting down where they are coming from before DH's rep takes a hit for high cost, low quality. I do not think FFG is doing it, personally, but I do think someone in the chain of handling is not storing or shipping them correctly.

Don't know what to offer for aid to you on any books currently other then if you are trying the weight method, watch the outside and inside of the cover for signs of outer layers stressing pre break to save making the damage worse.. We didn't spot it in time.
