Stay tuned for next week!!!

By FFGSteve, in UFS General Discussion

I think they only picked Tekken so the can have the "No seriously they're different characters" generic mirror matches:

E. Honda vs Ganryu

Gen vs Wang

Lien vs Nina

Fei Long vs Law

and last but not least;

Yoshimitsu vs Yoshimitsu

But in all serious I'm quite looking forward to Tekken sets. Hopefully we get a few promos called "King of Iron Fist Tournament", "Dark Ressurection" and so forth.

It just occurred to me: if the license IS Tekken, the odds of me ever getting KoF's King is very, very small, since it's not like KoF/SamSho Hanzo, who IS the same character. For this one, King (Tekken) and King (KoF) aren't even the same gender, much less the same person.

NOOOOOOOOOOO

Uh... Rock?

Neither have last names. Rock Howard at least had one ;p

What about Yoshimitsu? The SC and Tekken versions are completely different characters that have the same name, so I'm sure they'll handle that the same way they'll handle a situation with King, if it were to come up, besides, the King situation isn't so bad, aside from both characters having the same name, they're at least a different gender.

I am quite excited to hear what the newness is. Deep in my heart though...I see GG...it is a far off dream...but one can still dream. But Tekken...yea ok, I can definitly see as a fun game to add in.

See, the problem comes when you're at a tournament. How do you determine diversity? How do you keep to restrictions (not two players on a team can use a character with the same name)? There is no way to differentiate ON PAPER because they both have the same name. No last name, no nothing. Just "King". I think they learned their lesson from Dark Hado - don't make cards with the exact same name, or it will cause confusion.

How would they NAME them? The first print of the wrestler would be *King*, and the first print of the bouncer would be...what? It can't be *King* because that's already taken =/

Yoshimitsu is irrelevant - he's just like Hanzo. Same guy in every game. He's no less of a robot ninja in one game than in the other.

I'm sure that if the situation comes up, then FFG will figure out a way to deal with it.

Couple o' things

1. First and foremostly, God of War. K? God of War. While there's possibilities and probabilities he's speaking on behalf of other NamcoBandai/Capcom-related games (like Tekken, possible SF expansion to include 4, or maybe even something unrelated and unreleased and unspoken of), he said with EXTREME obviousness quote, "a certain god of war" unquote. Once again, not ruling-out anything else, but preeeeeety sure that God of War needs to be our focus here, ESPECIALLY since God of War 3 is slated for release in March 09 (I'm pretty sure, unless it got pushed?)

2. Bah, way too much fanboyism here, it's suffocating. FFGSteve, do me and many others a favor by putting in the initial thread that it IS about the license and it is NOT about Guilty Gear! It's getting a little too irritating to see them squealing the bloody acronym GG everywhere, although I'm so glad to hear they're not interested (because as much as you think it is, Guilty Gear just isn't very interesting). As for Tekken, a game in which I do somewhat care, even I'll admit that it gives them a huge challenge seeing as how many characters from Tekken are similar to ones from Street Fighter. Also, Tekken has an immensely popular market, so while it'd be a nice ploy to get in new players, expectations would be high (especially from me. My fellow fan-creators know why =D).

3. If they did release King from Tekken and King from KOF, they'd be released with the same name, same dot scheme, and really, only idiots would be confused. They would be treated as different characters completely, even though they obviously share the same name and dot scheme. As for Yoshimitsu, while he would probably be released with the continuing dot scheme of SC's Yoshimitsu (which btw, is at 4 right now), I honestly feel that Tekken Yoshi and SC Yoshi are different enough to warrant new cards. But that's just me. Oh, and not like anybody cares, but does anybody know that Yoshimitsu's Kanji on his back says Void? Nomu nomu nomu

That's it from me. Be it God of War, Tekken, or something completely different (Sir Not-Appearing-In-This-Film?), I support it. I'm really hoping after 3 years they've answered my prayers for the Dawson's Creek battle pack

Dawson's Creek Battle Pack? YAY! Now I can finally have my dream battle of Dawson vs. Pacey to see who is mighty enough to win the hearts of Joey/Jen or whatever woman they meet or make eye contact with.

...why...

Oh and for anyone having issues with Magaki? Use Leader Athena. Yes, I know she's horrible in XI, but her LDM KILLS Magaki if it connects.

At Least Guilty Gear has original chracters...

i usually use Kula and her LDM to deal with Magaki... i have issues trying to beat him if i don't use Kula or Athena >_> using Shion helps, though he's very cheap himself...

i personally would like to see the other SS and KoF games get included (i want Shiki and Asura...), but i'd be fine with Tekken even though i'm not that familiar with it and have never played it... and i'm not sure why some people still think it may be GG when Steve posted a few pages back that it was not GG >_> which is another one i wouldn't mind but w/e, my guess is that its Tekken...

The only problem with that is that during the Commit One Podcast interview, Steve said that the new license is through one of their current partners, which are Capcom, SNK Playmore, and Namco Bandai. There is the extreme off chance that you can also concider Square-Enix, since FFG also publishes the Kingdom Hearts CCG, but I'm pretty sure he means one of their UFS partners, which of course would exclude Sony and the God of War series. As far as God of War 3 is concnerned, it doesn't have a release date yet, but I'm gonna put my money on it coming out sometime in the fall.

...so it's NOT the Soulcalibur IV announcement? Because if it isn't, I might need to buy 2 pairs of pants instead of the one I need to buy.

I'm gonna go ahead and put my money on Tekken. That's just my gut talking.

teammates can both run the same named character, they just can't include a version of the character that the other is using.

With any luck its kof xii so i can finally have Joe cards.

REALLY, Omar?! I had no idea ;_;

Didn't Kenpachi Mishima have some sort of title in Tekken 5? Wasn't he the ultimate god of fighting or somesuch?

I really would Prefer for KOF 2006 to turn into just KOF more than any new license.

At this point I will be surprised if it's not Tekken. But who knows? I shouldn't get my hopes up.

On the subject of King...the King in Tekken 3 onward is sometimes referred to as King II, or King the Second. If UFS decides to call him King II, then that would make it a whole lot easier to include SNK's King down the line...(which I hope they will) I know, *King II* might look a little silly, but oh well.

Also, I wonder what FFG will do regarding Roger Jr.? Roger Jr. isn't actually playable, he just sits in his mother's pouch while she does all the figthing. She is the character you play as when you select "Roger Jr." So, what I'm trying to get at is, will the character cards gender be female because you are playing as the female kangaroo, or male because the character is named after the male joey? I'd say female, because that's who the character really is. Sorry if I'm being confusing.

I hope Roger Jr.('s mom) and/or Kuma and/or Panda will make it into the first Tekken set. I mean come on, it would be a waste not to have them in the FIRST set.

They'll probably make the mother the character, and have Roger Jr as an asset.

heres a random thought, since the samurai shodown anthology is coming out in the next month or two, maybe they got a full liceance for samurai shodown 5 special or samurai shodown 6

Something like that, I'd need to pull out my copy of Tekken 5 to know, and that's just a bit more work than I'm willing to do right now.

...ok, make that 3 pairs of pants.

Regarding Tekken, I am so gonna run Asuka, Lili, and Kazuya. Also, I'm a bit confused about the whole King thing as well. Armor King is no problem...

Oh, and what about Yoshimitsu? Both Tekken and Soulcalibur have him (albeit different men with the same name), so how's that going to play out?

Same way they did Hanzo in KOF2006 and Samurai Shodown, I'd assume. Same character, different game.
