The Dream Tourney

By Ratatoskr, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Ahem, I feel a bit stupid posting this. Please don't laugh too hard.

Thing is, my wife had a dream last night (no kidding!) about me attending an AGoT tourney. In the dream, they had a rule that each participant had to bing six decks, one for each house, and the deck each player had to play each round was chosen randomly.

Now, I actually think this would be a fun idea. There would be some practical problems, obviously, such as the fact that you'd need many copies of some staple cards. But that could be solved, I guess. You could allow players to switch in the necessary plots or neutral cards in between rounds. Or, a more radical idea, you could only allow each card once per card title, over all six decks, to encourage diversity in deckbuilding. What does everybody else think?

Some people have 6 decks anyway, but some play only one, favorite house. So I don't think such tournament will be played often. But the idea is fun I think.

I had a similar idea, except that the tournament establishes a set of, say, 6 tournament decks, which the players must play with. They could be assigned randomly for each match, or round robin, or what have you. The decklists could be published some appropriate amount of time before the tournament.

crazy! My wife had a dream were I was at a tourney, and had to play against good players. LOL I got it how about you try runing a one good deck tournament.

Well, it should be easier to run some thematic tournamnets where everyone has to have two decks of different houses. Just something like "Greyjoy´s rebellion" every one has to play a Greyjoy and a Stark or Baratheon deck. Or "battle in the River lands" where everyone has to play one Stark and one Lannister deck. Or "battle at the wall" every player needs to have a neutral house card with the wildling agendas and one house of choice with the nightwatch agendas (maybe this should be again limited to the houses that really supported the nightwatch).

Was I the only person who read the thread title and immediately thought of this year's Black Friday event in New York?

Seriously though, I think the event you're looking for is that one held by those guys in Manhattan on November 25, 2011...with a few caveats. First, rather than six BORING houses, you get to bring one AMAZING house/deck! Second, rather than random (yuck!) parings, you get to be paired in swiss fashion. And if the swiss can do anything, they can definitely make a good bar of chocolate, uh I mean wheel of cheese, err...I mean pair participants by wins + strength of schedule.

Anyway, all I'm saying is think about it...c'mon....
