Stark Melee

By ktei2008, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

Hi, guys: Recently a new roommate has joined our AGOT group so we finall have 3 players including me now. So I begin to focus on melee deck construction. We played several rounds last week and I found it's quite quite different from joust play. I used Stark and I never got the chance to win, though there were a few times I was having 12-13 power but due to the lack of intrigue icons, Lannister used intrigue challenges to rush to 15 power and won the game first.

I'm not a very newbie, but it seems I'm so not experienced in melee play (at least for 3 players). I like to use Stark and I don't want to change another house until I win at least one round. Is there any suggestion I can get from you guys, with respect to Stark melee deck building, like which key characters should I choose, what plots, etc.? I randomly saw a paragraph saying that Stark Rest deck, which uses a lot of 'Reset' and 'Killing when revealed' plots to always kind of clear the board and slow down the other players' progress, but is this really effective?

Looking forward to your reply and help guys! THANK YOU

The best Stark melee decks that I've seen in action all used the 'Siege of Winterfell' agenda.

The strategy is pretty simple. You run that agenda, a whole heap of good military characters, and the plots 'After the Mummers Ford' and 'Storm of Swords'. If you're feeling fancy, you could try a Direwolf themed deck (because they're pretty good at military stuff, At Night They Howl lets you freak out in two military challenges a turn, and LoW Shaggydog lets you drop the strength of incoming intrigue challenges to zero).

For added laughs, pick the 'Commander of the Kingsguard' title a lot, then use it to force your opponents to face you in military challenges.

That helps a lot. Thank you.

The " Tullys of Riverrun " deck has done great for me in melee, that said though we're all still fairly new players.
