Well, we already have mortars in the game. The Steel Rain carries a Petard Mortar, and since it is not Range A, the rules allow it to fire freely from inside a building like any other weapon.

Absolutley correct although as an aside what classifys as a Hangar in the game. Because a vehicle will be stuck inside it unless it is a hangar. Could be a bit stupid putting a Steel Rain in a building with another classification. The Petard also cannot be used for indirect fire to my understanding.
I would also assume a Mortar crew will act more in an indirect fire capacity than a Steel Rain as I wouldn't expect them to carry the same small arms as a normal squad. While the Petard may be classified as a mortar. I wouldn't put it in the same boat as a mortar carried by foot or mechanised in a half track.
Well, there's no such thing as a hangar anymore. It's all buidings with either large or small entrances.
But this does raise an interesting question. Vehicles can only enter buildings through large entrances, but if there's a deployment square inside a building with only small entrances, can you deploy a vehicle in there? Cause by starting the match already inside the building, it wouldn't need to cross an entrance. Sure, it'll be stuck in there through the game, but sometimes that's not a problem.
Why would you want to do that?
Dunno, but it's good to know for sure beforehand whether you can or not.
Walkers will not be able to start the game in a building unless its next to a large door, and squads can't unless the enter via any entrance. Models do not deploy on any square, they move onto it from off table, ergo, all models must be moved onto the table via a suitable entrance.
But some scenarios have deployment zones right inside buildings, not along the edge of the board. So the units doesn't have to cross an entrance to get to it, it already starts inside.

But those scenarios do not have buildings that do not have large doors to accomodate walkers.

I beg to differ. In SeeLowe scenario 2 there are two buildings with only small entrances where the defender can deploy.

What, the scenario where its say's "You cannot choose walkers for this mission"?
Touché, my friend. Touché. It seems the loophole master overstretched himself this time.
