New to game - Questions

By guest482943, in Dust Tactics

This game looks really cool, and i'm looking to pick up the core set soon. I was wondering which sets were best to pick up after that to expand your armies? Do the two expansions include any units besides the heroes?

For the walkers, once you choose a configuration are you stuck with that one? Or is it easy to interchange the parts afterwards?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

After the Core Set, the general consensus is that you should get:

- Command Squads - really change up the game.

- Medium Walkers - introduce some artillery

After that I'd recommend the SpecOps, which work well with the Artillery walkers, and then get some of the new campaigns once you've had enough of the ones in the core set (Cyclone and SeeLowe). When you feel like expanding your game and going for larger armies, go for the Revised Core Set, which gives you several units for a good price.

Mostly it's quite easy to change between the different walker configurations without much of a hassle. The allied light walker comes with one body and two heads. One of them you better leave as the artillery Steel Rain, and the other you can easily change the cannon to make either a Hot Dog, Pounder or Mickey (as long as you don't mind the latter two having a tank on the back that they shouldn't have). For the axis it's just a matter of changing out the hands to make either a Ludwig, Luther or Lothar. Though you will need to reverse a claw in order to make a Loth.

Thanks, I was looking at the Command Squads, seemed to add alot.

Good to know you can switch the walkers around. I was worried I'd have to buy alot of the same set to use these.

Thanks again!

Interesting point on command squads. Never really tried em yet; maybe if I expand both armies to 240 points or higher.

Also on the "to get" list is a spare bazooka squad box for each side. It gets you the card and a spare bazooka to make the tank hunting squads.

Hmmm, I think when my orders get here this week I'll have everything that is released except the rocket men and monkeys. Oh, and the game night heros.

Just so I understand Algesan. Are you saying if you buy the expansions with the Bazooka/Panzerchreck in them they come with 2 cards?

Edit - Just checked the expansions on the product page. I missed this and it seems you get an extra anti armour figure in each pack and a card to convert them into the anti armour squad. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Yes it comes with the standard The Gunners/Battle Grendiers card, and the alternate Bot Hunters/Tank Killers card.

Isn't that just in the Premium box?

"The Gunners are the most versatile unit the Allied forces have at their disposal, equipped with long-range rifles, Underbarrel Grenade Launchers (UGLs), and a Bazooka. This premium box fields an additional Bazooka figure and the Bot Hunters unit card, allowing you to convert The Gunners unit into a squad especially fitted to bring down the most well-armored of tanks and vehicles."

No, the normal box gets additional figure and card to.

Some really good tips here. I'll probably buy the Command Squads and some additional walkers. They weren't that expensive, any of them. And then the Revised Core Set when it finally hits Europe.

Right now I'm sitting at: 2x Core sets, 1x Command squad (each side), Cyclone, Seelowe. Due in the next couple of days, 1x Tank Hunter, 1x Mdm Walker, 1x Light Walker (each side for all three), 1x Gorillas, 1x Allied Rocket Squad. Next month's plan is Zombies and the other Allied Rocket Squad (too lazy to look them up now), one more of Mdm & Light Walker for each side. Two copies of the Revised Core when it comes out.

Which should bring me up to about 500-600 points per side I think and that should be big enough for anyone. Later, I'll probably add some more walkers so that a good variety can be fielded by snapping attachments on and off.

I'll slow down the rate I'm getting stuff if GW decides to have a clue and put out a good Necron codex instead of some of the blunders I've heard rumors of. Don't ask me, I'm contrary I guess, the two armies I wanted most when I started 40k about a year ago were Sisters of Battle and Necrons, both of the 3d Edition codices...
