Charging on squares

By StormKnight, in Anima: Tactics

Well, I know how well questions tend to go here, but what the heck...

If I understand correctly, when playing on a square grid, you pick a direction for a charge, and can charge in that direction or either of the directions 45 degrees from it.

For example, if you charge 'North', you can move North, Northeast, or Northwest.

This seems to give an awful lot of freedom; if someone is in a straight line from you with a huge wall in the way, you can easily run right around the wall to charge them.

Am I understanding this correctly?

If so, might it not be better to allow a charge along only two directions? IE: You can go North and Northeast. Or, you could choose to go North and Northwest. But you can't swerve back and forth.

Opinions?

???

sorry the rules don't talk about that...

Rules pdf Page 31. english version.

Charge: A character must move in a straight line towards the enemy character in order to be considered charging it, and must not move through any square that is not the most direct route towards the enemy.

You are quite right (as I also discovered when I re read the rules after our game yesterday). The method of movment I described is just for running, not charging.

However, I think I'm tempted to keep using charges as I described; the 'straight' line rules on grids tend to be more trouble than they are worth, as it gets confusing which squares you must enter.

Thanks for the reply!
