About traits and also Jhalabar

By nikotina, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Can a card type gain a trait of another card type? (Like Rhaegar's Harp giving "Kingdom", "Boon", "Power Struggle", etc. to a character).

Also: isn't anyone annoyed by the fact that Jalabhar Xho's name is wrong on his card (it says "Jhalabar"). And what's the deal with Myrcella LANNISTER? Why hasn't this been errata'ed?

Traits are not keyed to card type.

And no, I'm not that annoyed. Mistakes do happen. Would I wish the ones you mentioned had not? Certainly. But I'm not losing any sleep over the matter.

So, for example, if a player has a character with Rhaegar's Harp, and another player wins an unopposed challenge having the Seawater Scalawags, he can kneel the attached character, because its a Kingdom card, right? Or one could discard it with a combination of Copper Link and Carrion Bird, isn't it?

You've got the right idea, yes. Scalawags, yes. Carrion Bird, no. That combination was deemed too powerful, so Carrion Bird was errata'd to printed Raven only. Giving something else the Raven trait does not work with it.

Jalabhar Xho is pretty minor character (I don't think he's ever had dialogue in the books), so, no, I've never cared. Joffrey, Myrcella, and Tommen have always been referred to as Baratheon in the books, so I don't see the problem there. Cersei is an aberration in terms of not adopting her husband's name.

I might be wrong but she's Dornish queen.

Thanks for the clarifications. About Jalabhar, sometimes I just like nitpicking. And yes, Myrcella is Dornish queen, so she should be Martell, or at least Baratheon...

By the way, do you know if Jalabhar is misprinted in the most recent printing of the Core Set? They do update the text when they do a reprint. You should them an email if so. They might fix it in the next printing.

Also, did you mistype about Myrcella? She is Martell....

Jalabhar is from Clash of arms. Anyway such typo is no problem in game. As for Myrcella, he's talking about her name. If I remember correctly she's Lannister from mother side of throne succession. In Dorne things are different. happy.gif

There is a misprint that can potentially impact the game. Jhogo in the core set has the game's one and only Dohraki trait (that's Dohraki without a "T", not Dothraki). I'm surprised it hasn't been rectified in the recent printings.

I don't think this is a problem for anyone. Come on. Sandsnake (Snakeskin Veil) is not Sand Snake? And Thundering Cavalry's ability don't work because of typo?

Luckily for us foreigners who use translated versions there's an additional step of checking for mistakes. However, rewriting everything again in spanish makes it possible to have our own misprints

It's not the same. The Snadsnake thing is a missing space that can be logically ignored as a typo, and Thundering Cavalry is most certainly a mistake that logic dictates as such.

However, imagine a group of players who have never read the books or watched the TV series. They may actually think that Dothraki and Dohraki are two distinct traits. There are more than enough instances of different versions of the same character with differing traits to make the trait difference in Jhogo a possibility. We know it's a typo because we know Jhogo from the stories, not everyone does.

Edit: I'm not saying it's so huge an issue that we have to stop the presses for it, but it's there.
