BSG Board game made into a PC version.

It would be AWESOME if let's say fantasy flight and Paradox Entertainment made a merge and prehaps made this wonderful game with all the expanssions with choices ofc, as I dont like the caprica thing for pegasus but loves the eodus+cylon leader thing for a 6-7 player game sesson.. I would LOOVE to see this game made into a PC game, and that's NOT mmo or such buta simple just transfere everything into the game of a pc game.. it follows all the rules, you may pick to play the cylon leader, get an agenda card, then play the game out just as if it was at a board sesson with your friends. :) I know Paradox would make this into a AWESOME game compare to lets say EA which just restrict the freedom of the players with everything they do. Paradox on the other hand have released games such as Hearts of iron serie, mount and blade serie, diplomacy , which are proof they would make the players experience decide what you wanna do, you wanna play evil, well, go right ahead, you wanna play a human, will do! I think it would be AWESOME if these two companines did something like a PC game together :) I know for a FACT that paradox would be interested in this :)

I know I WOULD atleast be one of the people here who would buy it to support good game developers and then spend hours playing this amazing game :) maybe first time as cylon leader X (I love the fact of being allowed to pick the evil faction) and then prehaps the admiral, then prehaps the president, then prehaps a normal pilot :D ofc you should never know who are a cylon, the game should follow the rules from exodus and pegasus :)

So, what you think? =) Should BSG be made into a turn based board game but PC version? :D I say HELL YEA!

No.

(More stuff typed since my simple reply is too short to post.)

Yeah, here I am thinking about all the things I love about this game and not one of them would make it through the translation.

Of course I would have said the same thing for online poker ten years ago, so nevermind me. Different strokes, I guess ...

That is indeed an interesting idea. Next, however, I think of all the board or card games that were turned into computerized versions of their hard-copy counterparts...and I can't name a single one that was successful.

Magic: The Gathering was released as four or five CDs, each containing new cards from different expansions. It didn't prevail.

Settlers of Catan came out as a campaign-based computer game and, I'm sorry to announce, didn't really hit it either.

Ah, I just thought of Civilization. Granted, the first version of the board game sucked big time and if you ask around nowadays it'll be hard to find even a single person who still remembers it. The new board game is based on Sid Meyer's computer game, however, and as far as I can tell it's pretty good.

It seems to be a whole lot easier to turn computer games into board games. And more successful, too. :)

Chess and Scrabble.

There are actually a lot of games where I've thought "man, how much more fun would this be if a computer were keeping track of all these damned tokens and bookkeeping." BSG doesn't particularly seem to be one of those, however.

well, if it doesnt then it won't ruin the fun for you guys who only wanna play the game at the table :P but I See potential here :)

It's not that I only want to play BSG at a table. I don't really care about the table. I care about the people. IMHO, what makes BSG such a great game is that it changes with the people that play it. And I can name very few computer games that sport AI that could keep up with that.

Chess and Scrabble...you're right. However, if compared to BSG they follow rather simple mechanics and there is next to no relevant communication going on between the players. That alone makes chess and Scrabble ideal for human vs computer play. (And maybe the bookkeeping aspect of it.)

I think it could probably work.

You can still play with a headset and webcams...I'm not sure about the webcams as I think being on a headset would keep the game interesting and destroying one of the big faults I think on it - some of us (SPECIALLY ME!) can't lie!

When I'm a cylon people can pick up over my body language...I smirk a lot and get more energetic...

With a headset you wouldn't have that issue...it'd also make the game a bit more portable and still enjoyable, I think...that's my 5 cents there :P

Great games I recommand for people to try out made by paradox are Hearts of Iron series. Here you can see just how awesome the AI would be :)

And exactly how is AI capable of making optimum plans in a purely strategic game comparable to AI capable of socializing and betraying?

No, BSG is pretty much the prime example for a game that will still take AIs a long time to master (as in decades), especially as they would have to be able to communicate with the player, making plans dependant on the cooperation (or lack of such) from other players.

However, there's always Vassal (vassalengine.org), a freeware game engine that supports playing games online with a visualized and shared board including tokens for things like cards and a chat. Modules for BSG and its expansions already exist.

In addition to changing the player interaction that I like so much, this is definitely a game where I like using the physical pieces. Some board games work very well online (Settlers, for example) but I want the actual board and bits in this game. I still remember opening the Pegasus box and wooting! the plastic basestars... which should have been included in the Core lengua.gif

I feel almost a certain fear for changes here :P Sometimes changes are for the good you know =) as one said, poker online was something that person couldn't think would be any fun and it turned out to be a hit =)

Well, diplomacy exists as a pc game, I don't think the AI will be that stupid, it aint the 90's anymore, the computer will be able to have algeritms and math programs running to tell it just how to play =)
