First attempt at painting: Axis Tank Killers

By wrkrparasite, in Dust Tactics

My wife hates Dust Tactics, so it's been (unfortunately) sitting on my shelf for most of the year. However, the other day I taught it to my friend, who loved it. Which means I'm finally getting back into it myself.

Last winter I bought myself the GW 40K basic "learn to paint" set with the intention on learning how to paint so I could paint my Dust Tactics stuff. That too has been collecting dust until yesterday, when I broke it out (supplemented with a few other Citadel colors and a few Vallejo colors) to try my hand at actually getting this stuff painted.

The picture isn't that great, since I took it on my phone, but I wanted to share my first attempt at painting with you guys anyway. There's so much awesome stuff being done here and on BGG that I couldn't help but be inspired to give it a shot. I'm pretty happy with it as a first try; while it's nowhere near the level of quality I've seen here, it's still good enough to look cool on the board, which is my main concern, anyway.

Feedback is most welcome, though again, the picture kind of sucks. I'll try to get a better one with a proper camera later.

What I can see on the picture looks good for me. Not bad for a first shot. My Painting Skills are on a more "basic"-Level too. gui%C3%B1o.gif

I like 'em. I like esp. that you kept the armor subtle...flashy armor draws attention. The ink wash worked well, too.

They look fine for the tabletop, like mine. I got the same brown look on mine, as I used the Army Dip, and in future will brush it on, as opposed to dipping and shaking them off. I like the way mine turned out, but some of them have thick patches of the dip I forgot to remove before I flat matted them.

I think painting the Allied troops are the easiest, and I would have started with them if I have realized it.

FYI, the PANZER KILLERS do not have panzerfausts. I bought the same box to make them, and ended up using figures which do not have panzerfausts. I was lucky I had extra sets of figures. I think I used recon grenadier bodies and the heads from the guys in the box advertized as being able to produce a panzer killer unit.

Just a quick tip I like to apply the army painter shading with a brush. The dip method can be a little heavy and you wind up touching up with a brush anyway to even it out.

First of all...congrats on finding a fellow player to hit the game with you! (anything else is pointless without that little detail)

Models are pretty neat for a beginners work, you´re doing pretty good. The important thing in minies painting is learning to be neat, so you´re on the right track. Also good job at keeping a simple colour scheme to begin with.

Keep up the good work!

Applause for an excellent first time paint work. I remember my first time painting minis, got weirded out on how to paint as they don't work like they do on paper or canvas.
