Ok GenCon has got me fired up for some more AGoT tourneys. Where and when is the next big one? What chapter packs will be legal for it? Someone help me feed my addiction.
When is the Next Big Tournament
Days of Ice and Fire, November 11th-13th at FFG in Minnesota is probably the next "Big" tournament. As far as what will be legal, my guess is the entire Maester cycle and then probably whatever has been released up to that point.
I really think we need a better tournament scene for AGoT. A measly 2-3 month Regional tournament scene is just pathetic. Magic has tournaments year round. As does L5R, but I guess that is the beauty of a CCG is that to run a tournament you can do it weekly and give away boosters as prize support. Or you can do booster drafts. Sometimes I miss playing a CCG for these reasons. Booster draft tournaments are the bomb.
California has kublacon, calicon, and kingdomcon.
It would be cool to have 1-2 other tourneys to look forward to.
The biggest will be Stahleck in November.
Indeed stahleck is the biggest event we have in the world. This year we will pass 100 players for just for sure.
~ stahleck sounds cool. will definately try to be there!
should have one in ottawa
The Moon Boy Classic is coming.........
I forgot to mention, but the Iowa City crew is also having an event (just Joust I believe) on Saturday October 1st in Iowa City (casual play the night before I believe.) I won't be able to make it due to a previous commitment, but I was there for the Iowa regional and can attest that they run a good event and it's a very cool group of players. Jerod (Clu) and Luke (Maester Luke) are running point on it, so they should be able to get you full details.

Out of curiosity, are any North American players planning to come to Stahleck this year?

Oh how I wish I could. I have neither the money nor the desire to offend everyone with my exceptionally poor German.
If someone paid for my ticket, I'd be there. Unfortunately the cost is just too great.

Hm. I'll look for tickets, see what I can scrounge up. I need to take a big vacation anyway.
Edit: What airport do I fly into?
Best would be Frankfurt - Hahn (this is the closest one)
Other options: Cologne or Frankfurt am Main
Hm, I see that. There's actually quite a few under a grand, which isn't bad for me at all. I'm not sure really about timing though, which worries me a bit. I will have to talk to a few people, mainly my bosses and my "boss" (wife) and get back to you. I am seriously considering this as my big vacation, though.
Edit: Argh. Just realized this is very, very close to the Black Friday tournament. Rats. I don't think I can do that much traveling - just too hard on me these days - as much as I wanted to go. I've only ever been to some little, scary, sheep-poo-infested area of England before in Europe, and hope to travel there sometime for actual sight-seeing.
If we plan this properly, I might be able to pick up people in Frankfurt and give them a ride to Stahleck.

~Yes, you are telling this every year... just to jump off the boat last minute.
It also looks like there will also be some players at the Austrian Nationals late August.
Ok Minnesota is to far for me, so thats out. But, black friday is november 28th in NY? How many normaly turn out for black friday?
The last few years - between 15-20. Our biggest event was 2007 and we had 24. We shoudl be north of 20 this year, given that a few Europeans are coming in - bit that's just a guess. Not sure how many will come from DC now that finite has moved and local numbers have been down lately.
For Black Friday, here is what I'm thinking based on my *gut* feeling and what I've heard...
Manhattan: 5-7 players (possibly more)
Long Island: 2-4 players
Wash, DC: 2-5 players
Delaware: 2-4 players (some of you guys better make it!)
Boston: 0-2 players
Italy: 2-4 players
So an extremely low estimate would be about 15 players, and a high estimate would be above 25. I would lean toward the mid-to-high end, with more than 20 expected. If there were ever a year for travelers though, I'm thinking it will be this year. There is considerably more buzz this year than the last two years, so I'm hoping for a good turnout.
Any chance some kind folks could post details regarding the following tourneys:
Iowa City
Saturday October 1st?
Black Friday
Friday November 25th?
I'm primarily interested in...
Location?
Start Time?
Hotel(s) within walking distance of the site?
Anything else that might be pertinent for out-of-towners.
Thanks,
Papa
You're Long Island numbers are low. Seriously.
Four is the absolute minumum - me, Ryan, anthony and Paul. ABsed on teh feedback I am getting form our Leage play - the number could be quite a bit higher.
Unless Ryan is going to Days of Ice and Fire again - that's the only reason he missed last BF. But I think he'll be there. along with jesse probably and i think more than one fo teh new players. Will who showed at sumemr Knights is almsot defintie and I think jeff K will rpobably be there as well. I think Li will bring 7-10.
How many for Days of Ice and Fire? Seems like we got about 25-30 last year? But last year we had George RR Martin, and that has not been confirmed thsi year.
Hopefully there is a foot and a half of snow again so we can make fun of Kennon trying to drive in some southern belle vehicle
And drink way too many chocolate cake shots.

Stop yourself I drove up from Rochester on Saturday morning and left early because of it! Granted what do you expect from an event in November in MN. This year I'm ridding a tauntaun.
