1 /48 scale models

By Error 718, in Dust Tactics General Discussion

Hey, i was woundering if anyone has compared 1/48 scale ww2 models to dust?...i thought about getting a tank and maybe some other stuff but if it looks to out of place i wasnt going to bother.

I have used 1/35 scale for warhammer 40k in the past and that scale is about right....but i think it looks way to big for dust :/

Dust models are 1/48th scale, so any vehicles you buy should be ok.

yep , but for smaller models you need to add bases, so high will be right. I had to do it for my schwimmwagens

ah thanks, nice tip...do you have any pics of your 'extra' 1/48 scale bits that you could post ? happy.gif

Actually DUST troopers are about 32 mm. from the ground to their eyes so the correct scale should be 1/56, 1/48 being a bit bigger (about 37 mm.?).

Vehicles still look OK being a bit larger than minis and some equipment could work (bags or mag pouchs) but weapons would look large. Not a very bad thing looking at DUST infantry basic weapons but definitely not desirable when looking at "real" weapons to convert the minis.

So It would look like ideally 1/48 for vehicles at most (mandatory for planes as they will look too small besides armoured infantry) but 1/56 for infantry equipment-conversions. A useful link:

Exploring will bring more pages in the site with useful links.

It has to besaid that it may be weird but 1/48 seems more appropiated for DUST. I'll have to check and then post again...

The published scale is 1/48 and they are bigger than 28mm which is billed as 1/56.

hey great find pal, some good stuff there, half track looks good and some of the tanks..if you do find somemore post em!! :)

Average height for a US male from bottom of foot to eye is 5' 4"

5' 3" = 1.60 meters

1.60 m / 325 mm = 1/50

In fact if you put the Dust figures up against Tamiyas 1/48 figures with a similar pose, they are less than 1mm apart. However Dust figures are more "heroic" in proportion (thicker features and bigger weapons), which makes them seem larger than they are.

Ouch!

I was using 180 cm as the mark... My fault!

So you're right, 1/48 all the way... I have to get me some 1/48 thompsons...

Against flak armor and better? I'd prefer a BAR with armor piercing .30-06 rounds. Beats the heck out of .45 pistol rounds.

Yeah, the BAR... 4 feet of an iron tube with 20 bullet mags and 9 kg. weigth. Me, I prefer tommy guns. Close and personal, you know. And half the weigth. And half more capacity each mag. And still a .45 round, nothing to scorn at. And last but not least, the looks, my dear, the looks. A Tommy gun and a grenade launcher pistol or the like (just get me out that AR thing on top of it) and I'm fine with that.

Although a squad af armour clad machine gun (or bazooka) wielding people will come handy at times!

You can't compare the tommy gun and BAR as they are two totally different guns for 2 totally different uses. If I remember correctly the BAR was the worst squad automatic of the war with its low rate of fire and small ammo clips.

Can anyone make a photo of a normal human military 1:48 model and a DUST-mini?

Already done one a few months ago:

DT in the middle, Heroscape paratrooper on his right, rest Tamiya 1/48.

Thanks a lot, this helps :)

Heh, but for games like AH's Squad Leader the BAR eliminated the requirement to take a "light machine gun" for the US and gave them increased firepower over any other squad except short range specialists with masses submachine guns like the Tommy gun. Long range automatic punch available to every squad. If I had to shoot somebody in modern body armor, especially past pistol ranges, I'd take a BAR over a tommy gun all day long.

And that's the thing, ranges. BARs and Tommies are as it's been said different leagues. I'd vastly prefer one (or two) Victory MG equipped guy in my squad to take suppressing duties and leave myself for one or better dual tommies. Now gimme a load of FMJ 45 rounds and let's rock.

As pointed out earlier, the Dust figures are a bit bulkier than most model companies' 1/48 scale figures. I had some 1/48 equipment bits, but they looked too small on dust figures. Pistols especially looked out of place, like kids toys. I had better success with 1/35 equipment (pouches, holsters, etc.) items. And even then, a few things aren't "thick" enough. I bought some 1/35 .50 call guns from TASCA to swap out the .50 cals on my Allied tanks. (I didn't like that the ones that come with the tanks don't have grips on the back.) Length wise, they're about the same, but they look too thin and fragile compared to all of the other weapons, so I ended up adding grips and such to the Dust guns.

Thank you for the advice!
