Resolving Military Challenges

By pianoplayer3991, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

First question. If you lose a miltary challenge, can you pick a character to kill and then save him immediately after? e.g. I have Stannis Baratheon with Light Bringer attached which reads something along the lines of "kneel light bringer to save characther that it is attached to." So could I choose Stannis to settle the claim but then still save him?

Second question. What exactly does it mean when a card reads "Cannot be discarded from play"? Does that mean that once the card is on the table that it cannot NEVER be killed or discarded by any means? e.g. The Knight of the Rainwood has this trait, so can I pick him to resolve a claim? or is he an illegal target if I have someone else in play? and if he IS the only person in play does that just mean a Military challenge would have no effect?

Thanks for any help :)

Yes.

No. Compare him to Beric. But you are right, that you cannot even try to discard Knight of the Rainwood or kill/discard Beric. This is important for example when you have noble characters and there is currently revealed plot The Power of Blood. Then, you must choose for military claim some other, non-noble character.

You should check out the FAQ (found in the support section of the main AGOT website). That can help answer quite a number of questions, especially timing issues..

Thank you very much. The beric card cleared it up nicely. That makes knight of the rainwood a lot less useful than I thought he was ;)
