Mathlete is awesome!

I remember one time I brought a friend to Gencon that was new to Thrones, and John made him believe he was also new to the game. Then at the end of their game, he busted out The First Snow of Winter and was like "Hey, whose name is that?!"

I hadn't heard that story. ~Gosh, what an @ss lengua.gif

Actually, I would have been pretty miffed if I'd been the guy Mathlete had done that to. I know I've had others do similar things to me over the years. It leaves a pretty bad taste in my mouth.

Rings,

Sorry things didn't go better for you. I think you and Jesse need to move to Sac and then we can get better together. Having more people to play with would be nice and you are so sweet on the eyes!

Hmmm.. too late to edit the previous post, but I should clarify that I would be miffed if it were a tournament game. For a pickup, I'd admit that it's pretty funny.

I agree Will, although I'm not sure how to change the rules to prevent such, or even if such a change should be implemented. I think this is further support for eliminating the overall champion title.

Also, I think "Too Late to Edit the Post" would be a great promo plot card for FFG to send out to frequent board posters. I think the effect should be something like "Characters with a Learned crest and/or the Maester trait cannot kneel, stand, or use their character abilities"

It would be a lot different if the call for a deck list was to better understand how they lost instead of being spiteful and checking for a cheated deck. I mean - if someone lost to me and wanted to see my strategy, then I'd probably take it as a compliment that they thought my deck was good. :-)

However anytime someone is a jerk and makes me feel like I may have cheated them, they are insecure arrogant asses. :-)

1. You must still be drunk because you still can't spell Zeiler's name right. Ive never even drank with the guy and I know how to spell his name :P

2. Someone actually called Mathlete of all people an a-hole? Good thing I wasn't there or I would have gone all National Treasure on that dude while drinking my green mouthwash ;)

3. I can understand the let down of the competitive scene being what it is. With my son or with an ex's son, I've played many collectible games over the last 10 years from Pokemon to Heroclix to Naruto. I must say that the competitive scene of collectible games was always much more annoying than in any other game Ive played (like Battletech at old Strategicons) or any sports or martial event I have ever played. I just chalked it up to the younger generation that grew up with CCGs just have a different view of sportsmanship than people that competed in other types of competitive events. After experiences like watching a 25+ yr old grown man play absolute min-max at a local gaming night against my 8 yr old son, I pretty much decided that I wouldn't waste money on collectible games ever again...the communities surrounding those games were too petty and min-max whiny for my taste.

And then I found Game of Thrones. I was totally blown away with the type of community GoT had. Hands down, the greatest group of gamers I had ever come across. Everyone from the California meta was encouraging and helpful and even donated Rare cards to me (something that NEVER happened in any other Collectible game). I really was impressed with a gaming community that was competitive but also so down to earth and cool. That spread when I played a handful of other online games with members of this forum that I had never met in real life (like Kennon and Dobbler and a bunch that tried Travian). I have always been impressed with the type of people this game has always attracted. Champions like Mathlete, Dobbler and Rings always demonstrated class as well as skill. This pleasantly surprised me coming from other collectible games.

There was something very different and special about the old GoT players from the CCG era that really changed my perception of what type of people actually play collectible games. Many of the people I have met through Thrones are some of the greatest people and friends I've ever met. It would be really sad to see the GoT community degenerate into "just another collectible game community". Sure everyone wants to win but I hope that the GoT community collectively never forgets to have fun and remember why this community was and is the best in gaming.

I know that it must have been ages ago that you posted this, but I just wanted to tip my hat to that portrayal of AGOT players, at least in the old days. I remember going to my first Gencon and being welcomed in by Luke, Nate, Eric and Mathlete (who gave me tons of recently won support). It brought my love alive for AGOT as well as FFG (for any company that can gain those types of followers is worth its weight in gold). After that I was hooked and only stopped because I moved to a region that did not have those games in availabilty (only pokemon, yugi oh and magic). Within the last few months we have gotten quite a following for AGOT because of HBO and now I am getting into the LCG (after LOTRLCG). Anyway, I just wanted to agree with your assessment of AGOT old school players. Thanks.

Also, I can't believe anyone ever had the gall to call Mathlete an a-hole! The nerve!

Sounds like the classical programming problem of "is-a" vs "has-a". Programmers unite!

Nice TR rings - you always provide good and entertining write ups - even though you are abd at deatils.

FWIW - i agree with you on the competitive scene and the flavor of the game right now in general. People can say what they want - and if it works for you great: - but i have pulled way way back from the competitive scene and spend 95% of my time in casual meet up play and League Night stuff. Much more fun. I'm surprised its gotten to the point where its become teams and net decking adn that sort of scene just isn't fun for me. Glad I'm not alone in my sentiments.

Nice TR.

Nice TR.

The two totally go together. If I would have been more excited about competative play (remember, I am the guy who has posted on the Monday afterwards for...um...8?...9?...straight years) I would have posted earlier and remembered (and had the want to post) more details. Being fairly releived to not make the 4-2 cut is a bad sign happy.gif
