Why this first edition fan will (most likely) get second (+ conversion kit)

By DandGeezer, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

My gaming group digs Descent but the loooong play time means it doesn't see much play. When I suggested Road to Legend a few players complained about the prospect of commiting to 40+ hours for a game (even though it would be broken down into manageable chunks.)

IF I like what I see in 2nd edition, it would be playable on weeknights AND have the option of campaignable play. 1e could still be played on the random weekends when we actually have the time.

Yup, that's the plan!...

I am looking forward to it too!

BUT - to defend RtL a little bit - it was designed that each level of the dungeon (and each outdoor encounter) could be completed in an hour - and once you were rolling you could really pull that off. If the OL is organized (i would presetup the dungeons into pizza boxes between plays) you can play a full dungeon in a 3 hour sitting.

But that wasn't their issue. Their issue was commiting to so many game nights to play through it; they'd rather play D&D (both 3.5 and 4e.) I would've loved it, but oh well...

Gotcha. I guess I can understand that. I had a group I wanted to play a campaign with that was really into D&D (I am not - I was trying to convert them) :) but they just wanted what they already knew.
