Loyalty Money Can Buy

Card is here

I was wondering, when a claim is now 0, during Power Challenges, can you still move power from one card to another? I heard moving power is different from claiming power.

Also, if claim is 0, winning a bonus token (during any of the challenge types) for: unopposed, or for opposing the defenders job title (melee), or renown, or specific card text that says character claims power for winning a challenge type are effected as well or no?

Thanks for the help.

moving

In game terms, "claiming" power is when the total number of power on the board (for all players) increases. "Moving" power is when the total number of power on the board (for all players) does not change, but the distribution becomes different. When you look at it in that light, you can see that the effects (commonly called "claim") of a power challenge count as "moving" power.

I didn't think it stopped people from getting their bonus tokens, but then again I am confused my moving vs claming tokens so I had to ask. I honestly still don't get it but at least I know how to do it "right" now.

Thank you

There are two different ways to use the word "claim" in this game:

  1. The "prize" the attacker gets when they win a challenge.
  2. Physically taking power tokens out of the general power pool and putting it on a card in play.

So that's the difference in a nutshell. "Claiming power" means that the power token comes from the power pool. "Moving power" means that it comes from anywhere else. It's kind of like the difference between "landing" and "crashing" a plane: you end up on the ground with both, but how you got there makes a huge difference.

The reason it gets confusing for the power challenge is because the "prize" you get for winning is commonly called "claim" for the challenge. However, when you read the rules, the prize you actually get is to take a power from the loser's House card and put it on your own. That means that when you win a power challenge, the power does not come from the general power pool - so it is not "claiming power" by the second use of the word "claim." It is, however, "settling claim" for the challenge under the first use of the word "claim."

The confusion leading to the original question seems to have come from the fact that the "claim number" on your plot card is only used in the first use of the word "claim," not the second.
