Four decks and a greeting.

By Elochim, in Call of Cthulhu Deck Construction

Hi everybody!

Just wanted to introduce myself and take the chance to express
my gratitude for all the great advice about CoC that I have
gotten from this forum.

I am a long time geek just turned 30 and have been into rpg's,
ccg's and all things geeky, especially Lovecraftian, for the
last 20 years.

Just 6 months ago my flatmates introduced me too CoC and I was
immediately hooked! Now I have finally gotten all the released
cards for the LCG and really started to get into deck-building
and forcing people around me to play the game. Sadly I am the
only one around here (northern Sweden) playing competitively
that I know of,but hopefully I will be able to get a
going or arrangea small tournament this autumn/winter,
just to get people to try this great game out in a more
serious enviroment.

So except for my eight mono-faction highlander decks that I
mostly use to play Centacle-style four-player multiplayer with
my friends whenever I get the chance I have started to work
on four more serious tournament-decks. They are not nearly done
since I have only playtested them on my own versus one another,
but hopefully people here can help me tweak them further,
especially now that Gencon has come and gone and the meta
have crystallized after the maga-birds/endless interrogation
banning.

So nice to meet you all and thanks for the great advice you
will hopefully have for me!

So this is my favorite deck, combining my two favorite factions;
the harassment and underhanded tricks of Syndicate and the nasty
madness and control of Hastur. I just love the mechanics of both
these two factions so my personal goal for more serious deckbuilding
is to make a somewhat functionable deck with these two factions.

It has some glaring weaknesses this far in its low skill and lack
of support-removal. Y'ha-nthlei-statue is not good for this deck...

It plays like what some people here (Magnus I think) have called a
tactical deck. It's not pure rush, but instead tries to get a good
board position through two-for-one cards like the Rats, Victoria and
Hard Case to then use lock-downs like the Seventy Steps, Cavern of
Flame and Infernal Obsession to keep the pressure up,

This is my standard kill-em-all-deck. Cthulhu has some ridiculous
cards and Agency is no slop when it comes to removal, so there it
is, remove characters, be able to deal with anything with Deep
One Assault and just walk over the opposition.

It has serious issues with massive Shub-spawning since it has no
Snow Graves (this is due to making four decks with one playset),
otherwise it should be able to deal with most threats.

This is the deck that I had the hardes time trimming down since
Cthulhu has so many useful cards that wasn't broad enough to fit
in like Get it off! and Feeding Frenzy. It was also a tough choice
between Cthulhu and Yig, since in playtesting none of them has ever
made an appearance. As it stands Cthulhu won out on pure late-game
removal-ability.

This is a deck that is quickly becoming a new pet-favorite of mine,
the spawning and resource-boosting of Shub matches up with effective
but expensive Silver Twilight and their awesome two-for-one characters
to make a very powerful duo.

If it can survive the early onslaught of wounding decks without losing
to many stories it should come out flying by turn 3 and then just
continue pumping out characters and bouncing the opponents.

Its main drawback is of course Snow Graves, but when Thunder in the
East this should be greatly mitigated (since in that case the limit
to your own operations phase is irrelevant). In playtest Farrington
often beats Eibon since he bounces Eibon and removes his awesome
re-appearing powers, even without Snow Graves.

Finally, the ubiquous TitG-deck, of course with some milling as
an alternative win-con. I haven't really given this much thought
after realisning how powerful the Stalking Hounds and Miskatonics
insanity-removal is with TitG.

If any of my decks could be accused of net-decking, it is this one.
I love to play it in single player, but after playing with and
against it in a few multiplayer games before I discovered the
Centacle-rules I have come to dislike TitG more and more, so much
that I have almost started thinking about re-making it into a sac.

These look like pretty fun decks to play, nice job! I've been messing around with a similar type things in the ground deck.
