Does anyone have a better way to attach the MG44 on the Axis Walkers? If I glue them down, I am afraid they will break off, and if you leave them just plugged in, they pop off, so it seems to be a no-win scenario.
ATTACHING THE AXIS WALKER MG44
How would you do that??
I hate how the MGs look on the axis walkers! Not only are they poorly attached to a very delicate bit of the figure, but they just look WRONG. I mean, look at it:
It looks like an add-on, a fiddly bit stuck on top of an otherwise fearsome beast. It sticks out like a sore thumb, always pointing at some random spot in the sky.
I've seen that many people just leave the MGs out of their walker, but then you're not really representing your unit's weaponry. The solution I found was to attach the MG to the center "smoke exhaust" or whatever those 3 pipes on top of it are:
I simply drill the hole a bit to widen it and the gun just slips right in. It now has a much sturdier base to keep it in place, you can glue it and you'll have a real hard time snapping it off. Plus it now becomes part of the walker's body, not something dangling from one end, and it points straight forward, where the enemy supposedly is.
Sure, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to have the gun stuck on that pipe, if it serves some other purpose, and it would make opening the hatch a bit of a hassle. But to me how a walker LOOKS and how durable it is are much more important issues than those.
Fantastic tip! I am going to do this to my walkers as well. It looks so much better.
Agreed on all points.
If I'm going imagine how the pilot would use all the stat lines for the walker, I picture him firing inside the walker cockpit, "then" popping out of hatch to fire the MG44. These types of walkers to the best of my knowledge has a 1 man crew.
Might as well place it on the smoke launchers.
not sure if you clicked on my reply. its a link to a tutorial on magnetizing the walkers.
The fluff specifically says the Mg44 is remote controlled, perhaps that is what all the other doohickies sticking off of it are, a remote unit, so opening the cockpit is not a problem, I guess you just flip a switch and off it goes.
the three 'exhaust' thingies right behind the hatch are smoke launchers.
Oh, and I just leave the gun off, I can;t stand it, with the two lenses on it, it looks like a tiny mechanical bird's head.

agreed...they kinda suck. Cool axis walkers got left w/ orphan MGs. If they're remote control...something's missing.
I plan on modding something...at some point...eventually.
I took the MG44 apart, and it is somewhat flexible. The two lens thing can actually be positioned into the up position, and it swivels. So you can actually easily remove all but the actual gun and mount it.
