Is Dust Tactics turning too much Sci-Fi ?

To try and keep it even I think the armour 3 class of troops should be rare units. Stating that maybe you could only have one of each per list.

I don't know what that will achieve, if I (or opponant) want to field an all AC3 army and pay the points for them, then why shouldn't we?

Normally I am also against limits such as that. No general has ever gone "well Id really like to field all these cool tanks I am in charge of, but the rules state I can only field three of them and must have at least two foot troops!"

However, I think the points need to be reexamined, again. Especially if the armor saves from Dust Warfare are to be considered. In Dust Tactics infantry does have certain bonuses that tanks/walkers/heroes dont, which is the access to cover and command squad bonuses/abilities/skills.

However a hero can join a squad and that becomes a powerful tool.

I do not mind an overall fee for excessive duplication of a certain squad or Armor Class. Ive seen it before in other "points" based games. Albeit mainly role playing game.

Currently, I dont think its much a super issue, but its about to be. This time next year you will have 5 or so Armor 3 squads to choose from for each side. If not more. And the game will be more and more susceptible to imbalance as some players only buy and field the bestest units.

So far, as the scenario campaign boxes have come out each side has had a few add ons and equal amount of new troops/squads/heroes allowed.

IN the end I do not mind some sci-fi creep, or heack, even tons of it. What I dont like is the total removal of normalcy.

Not even neccessary. Again, the Armor 3 troops are really not overpowered. Yes they are a pain in the arse with a hero in their squad, but they go down to well placed fire pretty easily and I know my 2 Wildfires are the bane of most A3 troops I play around. We played one of the Blue Thunder scenarios last Saturday. My opponent took 3 squads of Gorillas, one with Marcus, a squad of Grenadiers, and the 2 cannon Axis Walker (can't remember all the different "L" names). I took Wildfire, Ozz and Reapers, BBQ, Gunners, and Mickey. It came down to a couple squads of Gorillas that he actually had to bring back as reinforcements and my Wildfire that finally went down to massed apes (after killing nearly 2 squads of them on it's own).

They are only 3 man squads. Just improve your tactics to reduce their threat. A2 troops can still be very effective against them. My Reapers were useless in that game because I was careless with them.

iam not fan of power armor troops. I prefer more ONI at 43 style for my axis.

But there is still lots of option in dust - you can field lots of regular infantry or focus on strange or high tec. I bought two squads of melusine to use as my Armored troops and thinking about some conversion to ONI heavy.

Walkers keep their WW2 style so iam happy

btw regular infantry adventage lies in that it does not req Heroes.Gorillas need Markus, and both Heroes give Sturm zombies this unstapable force feel

I look at it this way. Its a game, if I dont like the zombies or gorillias then i dont use them and keep it a simpler game using the men and vehicles I like to use. Again its a game make it how you like and you may enjoy it more.

I agree completely!

I really like the AWWII setting. I like using the infantry. I don't think i'll be buying the heavy armour infantry. Although the Incursion APE miniatures look awesome and I also like the Zombie units.

I think that they will try to incorporate all sorts of ideas in units. People can take what they want and leave what they want. I'm looking forward to building an U.S. Airborne infantry only force.

I'd also like to build some decent Shermans/Panzer model kits and use them as proxies or use alternative rules.

Within your gaming groups play however you want. They only time you'd have to step out of your own fluff comfort zone would be in tournaments, and those are never really "fluffy" any way :)

As with power creep, which is a completely different subject, hopefully FFG will continue to do what they did with the points adjustments they have already made and continue to occasionally update the points cost via a FAQ or new army list once the units are being used out in the wild. This would be AWESOME. Other companies *cough* GW *cough* could learn from this.

I'm not sure if i'm going to like the vrill, so I won't buy them. Some people will. I don't mind playing against those people. I'll build my armies how I like them!

I can get behind the fact that as time goes by the units will get weirder. I just hope that as this game expands, the new units are not only the latest and greatest. What I mean is that I hope they still expand the game with units from the early days of the war as well as the later years.

I like the look of the class 2 and 3 troop types and hope that when the sino-soviets come out that they start with them being more like the WWII russians and progress like the allies and the axis troops have. The Sci-fi look of the 3 troopers and walkers looks great. The only thing I would wish they change is changing the zombies away from class 3 to class 2.
