Private messages?

Is there any way to send a user a private message on this forum?

No. It is one of the many features we have requested.

People you are freinds with may have chose to set there Email adress to be viewbale by you in their profile.

Hopefully they will get a PM mechanic on this site.

While true, this is hardly an acceptable compromise to most people. Having to be "friends" with every single person you may want to communicate with on the side is ridiculous, especially if you were just wanting to ask a one-off question privately.

Plus, PMs still allow you to retain your privacy in having these non-public conversations. The current system is "either disallow non-public conversations, or give access to an email address that you may not want people to see".

I am not really interested in debating the merits of a site based PM system, rather I was answering the OPs question. If you wish to complain about the lack of forum features I believe there are plenty of threads dedicated to that specific purpose.

This forum DESPERATELY needs a PM feature in my eyes

Agreed. It sucks that this new "friends" system was put in place to help us locate other players, but ironically almost makes it harder to contact them than the old boards. I have been desperately trying to use the friends system to get a hold of other gamers close to me, but if they never even accept my random friend invite to begin with I have no way to contact them except for posting on the forums about it. And even then they might not have their email showing. And why should they accept my friend invite? Nothing clues them in to why I would want to contact them over some random dude.

While emailing is a "compromise", it's not an ACCEPTABLE compromise, thus, my answer is valid. Many (most?) people don't want to have to publish their personal email address to communicate privately on a forum. It's a workaround, yes. But it's not a solution.

Funny thing is, the original Kingdom Hearts forums are still open so messaging is made easier. ^_^

News over at the French Edge site (the template for this one) is that they now have Private Messaging!!

Does this mean it's only a matter of time before FFG gets them??

let's hope so.

I wanted to ask some members a few questions, however I don't have their e-mails and posting on the forum is not an option.

Ok, so we do now have the little private message buttons like in TI's pic up above. I sent some messages out and it said they were sent correctly, but does anyone know where they show up to? Like is there some sort of inbox somewhere in my profile menu? I can't seem to find one, and thus how will I know if someone replies? Or how will they even know that they got a message in the first place?

If we were "friends," I would send you a message to see where it goes. gran_risa.gif

It's very possible it gets sent to your personal email address - much like the friend request does now.

Thanks. Yeah it went to my email. Cool and good to know.

Thanks.

that's great, but it's pretty well hidden - wouldn't even see it for who knows how long if you didn't tell me.

ah well, nevermind - as long as it's there :)

I sure hope that isn't their "solution" to the Private Message thing.

1) I don't want my PMs going to my email. I want them to be self-contained withing the forum software. Every other reasonable forum software in the world has this capability, why is Edge Studios so inept as to make this possible?

2) I don't want to have to be "friends" with everyone that I want to message. That's like saying I have to get a contract to call someone on the phone or send them a letter. There are times when you just want to send a one-off message to ask a question.

I don't even know where to find this supposed PM thing. Probably on my friends list page, though I wouldn't know, as I think the whole friend list page is a stupid idea anyway.

Seriously, is this how the FFG tech people are going to try and fix things, but putting sub-par bandaids on the forum rather than FIXING the problems? I would have thought a company as successful as FFG would be able to make a site worth using, but it seems rather than try to do that, they (IE, the web folks) seem to be happy living in their own little bubble, pretending that their hack solutions are going to make it usable.
