WIP Grim Reapers... no really... Grim Reapers :)

By blkdymnd, in Dust Tactics

Thought I would make sure these guys stood out. Didn't like how the studio did them in those nice bright blue/grey colors for being Grim Reapers, so I'm taking it up a bit. I will also be doing bits of their armor to reflect their nickname as well and i'll update them after I get some more done.

That's NASTY. Those things should have a gruesome whirlwind attack.

They do look better than the ones out of the box. Where did you get the bits from? Are they Dark Eldar?

And they should have a nasty attack of some sort, maybe give them Charge with the Jump ability. Would this add 5 or more points to the cost? I think the Rocket Punch is pretty nasty by itself.

Thanks guys. Yeah, a whirlwind attack would be much awesomer than a rocket punch with those :)

The bits are GW zombie scythe arms. I'm planning a mostly black scheme with olive green armor parts here and there to match my Ozz repaint (he used to be red, white, and blue but I toned him down to a more dark olive look that will carry on to the rest of my Armor 3 troops), and then probably go with white helmets for the Grim Reaper skull. Thats the plan anyway.

I thought the Red/White/Blue was cool on Ozz. I was about to paint mine this way! What happened, does he not look cool on the table?

Great job with the reaper blades. They look bad ass.

Thats the one thing that GW has up on FFG minis, the bitz. The amount of bitz you get to customize your troops in GW games is insane. I realize that Dust is not a full on miniatures game but Warfare will be and FFG will need to step up their modeling game to compete.

It looked alright on the table, but really badly clashed with the rest of the army, which was part of the thought behind the garrish theme, but it just ended up too garrish. What I will try to do is use the olive color as the "main" color of the Armor 3's, but then tweak parts of it a bit to individualize them to their squad names. Hence these Grim Reapers, I will probably try to do something suitably cool for the Red Devils, and continue that train of thought with the others.

Got a decent amount of progress on the test model tonight. Still a lot of detail work and touch up, but here is the basic color scheme for my Reapers...

Can you paint over the Nuclear symbol and replace it with a skull or something else? I just do not see any reason for the nuke symbol on anything, and I think it takes away from these figures as you have changed them.

Thats a really good idea. I will probably do some crossed scythes as I can't freehand to save my life, but I can do straight lines :)

These are looking pretty cool. I agree with changing the symbol. Im just going to use the allied star and put unit patches on the shoulder area. The symbol is from the "Robot Corps"

I just think that if its on the power armor it should be smaller and someplace like the shoulder pads for a unit patch or something.

If I was some kind of Sniper Ace/Generic all-round badass infantry with AP rounds. Those chest logos kinda tells me, "Shoot Here." Even if the more logical target would be the seam connecting the helmet to the armor.

Final draft!

They look much more Grim Reapier. I think I would like the wings even BIGGER!

Lol... I'm done! :) I do have some ideas now for the other armor 3 infantry squads though
