Lions of the Rock

By FATMOUSE, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I don't think they will produce any house deluxe expansion after Lions of the Rock. It would be competing against the preexisting expansions. I expect things to be a bit different. Maybe boxes that put forward houses that don't currently exist in the LCG as neutrals or dual houses, with other cards expanding them, like they do with Warhammer Invasion, or maybe they will shift the boxes to be more thematic and the chapter packs will be more general, so a kingsguard box and the next cycle is just something that is applicable to more houses or more general themes.

I don't expect them to just stop though.

LOL. The expansion should have a really neutral sounding name, like "Cards".

How about "Inconsequential People who Die"?

If there needs be a neutral "House" deluxe expansion, I'd love to see one done on The Night's Watch with new versions of all the key Night's Watch characters.

They can call it something like: "Watchers on the Wall" or something...

Or they could go for all the characters of the faith. But now that I think about it, the last chapter packs always had a Neutral faction at their core: the maesters, the brotherhood, the Night's Watch. So probably the faith would rather be chapter pack material.

My general problem with deluxe house expansions is that it simply only adds a lot of new cards to a single house(with some neutral cards of course) and then it takes several months for the other houses to catch up with their own expansions(or combing cards from several chapter packs).

I think I'd enjoy smaller house expansions perhaps in the size of the current chapter packs if they are released every 2 months. 20x3 card mini expansions. It's currently a great sales tactic to give a little to each house every chapter pack so you have to buy a a few just to get a few cards you may want, so I doubt they'd do that. I do like getting several new plots from the deluxe expansions as well.

I'm hungover from the Rascal Flatts concert last night so I'm babbling now.

I also want to point out that I didn't mean 1 mini-expansion for each house every 2 months. I meant 1 overall every 2 months similar to how they release the current chapter packs every month.

~I could have sworn this was considered to be a horrible idea when I suggested it months ago.

I don't think it's horrible at all. Let's have some White Walkers and events on reanimating corpses in the next box!

Let's get some more Trait vs Trait action!

I guess it depends on the specifics on how it is done. I think the cycles need to be very thematic to keep them together. Secrets of Oldtown and A Tale of Champions are the kind of thing I would like to see (well, barring the fact I actually haven't seen a chapter pack yet from ToC). I don't think just sticking all the brotherhood or all the NW in a deluxe expansion would have been the best way to do those sets. I really think the Warhammer version of deluxe expansions would be the direction to go.

Bomb, there were actual a couple of doomed events from the Winter block that did just that kind of reanimating. And they were stupid good. :)

I'd still like to point back to my idea that they could do something akin to wholesale reprints of old blocks (House of Thorns/Talosn) being a good start. They might require some re-balancing, but it's a win-win for FFG. A new item that most players will embrace, and a low-effort product to continue filling a profitable roll. ~Besides people are still waiting to find out if they'll ever see that ridiculous TyWin again.

I see what you are doing there. :)

That doomed card, Massing at Twilight is... simply awesome. I can see why you'd go against the doomed mechanics again, if the other cards were anything at that power level.

I still think they missed the boat.

I think they missed the boat on all of them! They could've used alliteration along with the sigil of each house. The last two are a little bit weak - Dany spends a lot of time in desert-like climes and I couldn't think of anything but Lode (ie gold mine) or Landing (which they seem to have a stranglehold on in the early books).

Suns of the South

Krakens of the Coast

Wolves of the Wood

Stags of the Storm

Lions of the Lode

Dragons of the Desert

Next set of boxes:

Greyjoy: I thought about doing my sister

Lannister: I did do my sister

Stark: I can't find my sister

Targaryen: I sold my sister

Baratheon: My sister is a bastard, and so am I.

Greyjoy: Damp hair, drowning and misery

Lannister: Blonde hair, incest and lots of money

Stark: Fur, central heating and crummy weddings

Targaryen : Very blonde hair, lots of incest, no money but got dragons.

Baratheon: Black hair. Had a war about that.

Where is the Martell box?

Anyway this would make a great chapter pack cycle.

Martell: They raped my sister

Considering that they've already "reprinted" a ton of Wes/IAF stuff... and even a decent amount of VED block, and ITE block for some stuff.

Why not a 5KE box? Prune it down to say the best non-broken 60 cards from the set. The agendas, the characters that turned into agendas. Maybe the reducers that reduced by 2 if you had a king or queen? Kingdom locations? So maybe the bars attachment remover from AcoA will be useful again. (IIRC the only reason the 2 gold for 2 gold ones were really annoying is they were super rare and to compete one put 9 of them in. Though if they would return it does need heavy play testing because all those influence events become useable now).

Now as for the 'doomed' mechanic, I'd rather they reprint blood magic, tidal wave, array's revenge, and shadow play without the doomed crest and have them instead rebalanced and use a gold cost as an alternative to the influence cost. Granted, I don't think targ needs blood magic, but stark could use a decent challenge event that kills a character. And Bara could use shadow play. With more anti-renown coming out, why not give them this? The only major speed boost it gives is in rush vs rush match ups... which I think is OK.

Granted we already have the best cards from winter block; Forever Burning, Taste for Blood, and westeros bleeds.

They could name it "Does Martin have sister complex cycle" ;)

Give the guy a break, it's not like most girls/women aren't someone's sister.

Consider this... every woman that has at least two children is someone's milf.

I like this, the King/Queen mechanic was great and could be increased upon. They should be powerful IMHO. No Kingdom locations though - unless they could be balanced better.

So "A Game of Thrones: King of Queens"?

"Lions and Wolves and Snakes and Krakens and Dragons and Stags, Oh My!"

"Follow the Rose, Gold, Sea, Kings, and Cross brick roads".

I think at this point we'll just see "revised" reprintings of the existing houses, like they've already done with Kings of the Sea and Princes of the Sun. Next up, hopefully, will be Lords of Winter, as I just started playing a few weeks ago, and that one is out of stock everywhere.

What sort of revision does lord of winter need? Its already 3 of.
