Other games

Are there other games like talisman or close to be?

Prophecy, Return of the Heroes, & Runebound are similar in some aspects.

Each of the games Ell mentioned above are good in one way or another, but their only links to Talisman are 1) a boardgame, 3) a fantasy motif/setting with different degrees of integation, and 4) a race structure in the mechanics to a varied degree. But each differs more or less in other aspects. For example, Heroes is cooperative, and all of them offer more control over movement (somewhat) and gaining some resources. Talisman is a very traditional boardgame (very very random) with a light and loose fantasy motif.

For something by the original creator of Talisman you might look at Mygardia, though it is overpriced for my taste. It is slightly less random than Talisman, but not by much.

Another one that is off the beaten track is Dungeoneer, which at first looks like a pure card game and is not. The board is built with a subset of the cards, which can be expanded - all of its multiple scenarios can be mixed for a continuously expanded potential "realm" of play. I like its approach to a light touch of leveling for characters and how the board can be a little different each time. I don't like its way of trying to put consciousness into the "enemy" mastermind in the game via players each taking a turn playing dungeon lord cards on each other. That godlike PvP does appeal to a lot modern players, but examination shows that it just makes the dungeon lord look schizophrenic.

While over at BoardGameGeek.com, you might also take a look at the Thunderstone series as well.

There is a Talisman clone basically. Its an Insane Clown Posse game called the Quest for Shangri-La. The cards can be quite vulgar but the gameplay is very similar with few differences.

ICP made a game?? i love those juggalos, think i own close to every record they ever made.

The swedish game Drakar och Demoner: Brädspelet is similar in some ways.

Unfortunate it's only in swedish...

Wiz War is back guys. Great game. If you like casting spells, you'll love this game!

Anytime someone asks about other games like Talisman I reply by saying give Runebound a try. I thought I wasn't going to like all the small tokens, but once I got everything organized into one of those plastice fishing tackle bins ( or whatever people call those things ) I find the game enjoyable. The items you can buy and find in your travels are more powerful than in Talisman, which kind of makes adventuring and buying stuff fun. I've been playing Talisman for so long though, I'll probably never stop playing it in some way shape of form.

Yea, RB took over as the lead game our house, but I would never compare it to Talisman. Other than being another race to the end (in the base game at least) and a fantasy motif, there are a lot of differences. Good ones, but differences.

Thx for all the answers. I have already been playing RB a couple of times, and i must say, there is no way to compare those two games.

Anyone having trouble with all of the RB tokens should drop by my game site (see my sig) and see the Downloads page or go to the RB page at BoardGameGeek.com and look at its files section. There are options for using special homemade "token dice" of varied kinds to cut out almost all of the in-and-out of token pools.

And once you get into some of the big box expansions, the number of token types starts to expand as well.
