Your Welcome and sorry about the horrible photography skills.

Dan

THANK YOU! I wish everybody who got advanced copies of stuff was as helpful as you, sir.

Hey DCal, those are great pics. Thanks for posting 'em. Holy cow...lot of heroes. Interesting that the Hellboys reflect an extra flamethrower...and that the Germans finally get one.

With the game being out such a short time...every expansion that comes out makes it look like the previous things are way under powered. I mean look at the Axis light walker for example, there is no reason to play the old one.

What a lucky dog. Thanks for the pics Dcal!

Welcome to almost every new game I've played in the past decade. It's the nature of the beast in the gaming industry I'm afraid.

Yeah, I'm not really sold on these Revised Core Set units. They just don't talk to me like the ones from the old core set do... But what I really worry about is the escalation in destructive power with the heroes. Take a look at the comparison below, of all the heroes and the maximum damage they can inflict on an Armor 2 squad and an Armor 4 tank, not counting secondary C weapons:

Hero Name -------Squad---Tank

Bazooka Joe -------- 3 -------- 0
Johnny One-Eye --- 3 -------- 0
Sigrid ------------------3+ ------ 0
Rosie ------------------1 -------- 4
Manfred ---------------2 -------- 2
The Priest ----------- 2 -------- 4
Stefan ----------------- 5 -------- 4
Ozz 117 --------------- 5 -------- 4
Rhino ----------------- 8 --------- 2
Lara ------------------ 10 -------- 0
Action Jackson ---- 12 ------- 12

Sure, there's more to a hero than his firepower, some abilities can be very valuable tactically, but still, this worries me. Of course I don't want every hero to have pretty much the same power output, but greater power should come at a cost. Either drawbacks in the ability or movement department, or a much higher AP cost. But with costs oscillating between 16 and 24, that's really not that big a difference. The 8 AP difference can only get you an Observer squad that deals 2 damage. And the worst offenders like Lara, Action Jackson and Rhino have great abilities like Assault, Berserk, Damage Resilience and Move 2 with Jump.

PS: Didn't you get your hands on the Axis Hero Pack as well? Was it not available or were you just not interested?

Not available yet. I think it said Quarter 4

Ive been concerned about this for some time now. I call it the Glitterboy Effect, based on the Rifts RPG.

I think, for my own personal sanity, I will stop buying new Dust Tactics/Dust Warfare releases that are not rule based/fluff based after January 1. I want to keep my Axis force infantry based with some walker support, not Walker Based with one or two infantry to fill in the points. And I dont want to enter into the "FFG Dust Arms Race" just to win battles against my friends.

Hopefully the insta-kill stuff (Weapons that do 1/4 against tanks or 1/health or 1/death) will be watered down some in Dust Warfare with some of the rules glimpses seen at GenCon.

Yeah, I have half a mind to simply stay away from Armor 3 infantry.

Wow, thanks Dcal. Interesting cards and thanks for the upload. Will probably need 2 sets of the revised core. Mind if I ask the point cost of the heavy laser grenadiers?

The Priest looks like an interesting card at first glance. Could work effectively as a solo hero to draw fire from other unit because when he gets close to enemy walkers. He gets two chances to blow them with medal of honor and cost cheap. Else just play him with a bbq squad making them Fast and Agile; Or Hellboys if you got the points. Dual hero setup with either Rosie or One Eye, probably One Eye.

How'd the tourney go btw?

Was The Priest one of the prizes awarded to the top 4? I know we received several of the minis from the Game Night kits. What did the 1st and 2nd place winner receive?

Found typos. Help in proofing anyone?

The new basic squads are cool, but anyone with several squads of Recon or BBQ or Gunners can put these new squads together with no problem. I assume that in the Dust Warfare rules you will create custom squads if you want, perhaps with a requirement of 3 of 5 figures being basic infantry and the balance heavy weapons.

I was originally on the fence about the "glitterboy" syndrome, but I think I do see the real possibility of it becoming an issue. I like my basic infantry units, and I really hope that these armor 3 units are limited in the number you can have. They are supposed to be rare, are they not?

In all seriousness, I do not know why I worry about it, since I am the only person within 250 miles with the Dust Tactics stuff. It is not like I am going to run into someone with ANYTHING, much less an army consisting entirely of armor 3 heavies.

Click the pic to get the full photo's and thanks for taking the time do do this Dcal.

Am a bit dissapointed with some of the armour 2 infantry, its just repackaging the old stuff with a new card.

Heavy Laser Grenadiers are 30 points.

In the tourney I came in third. During the tourney I had beat Chris who later became the World Champion but loss to Lou the second place guy. Then during the final four I lost to Chris on the first round, he out played me very well.

I did make a major rookie mistake. I had planned my 250 point army for a few weeks prior to the tournament. You then pull from this 250 point army depending on the scenario. I had the tournament rules out, made sure all my units were permitted in the tournament, ready to GO! Then I went to GenCon on Thursday and Friday, bought all the new released stuff. Friday I was at GenCon playing games until 1AM Saturday. Got home couldnt fall asleep even though I was exhausted. Then I decided to tweek my army with the new stuff. Finally fell asleep, woke up, tweeked it somemore. Then off to the tourney. Met Lou a really nice guy even though he beat me, he looked at my list and informed me that I had units I couldnt use. They were not on the eligible list. I ran through that exhibit hall, knocking over elves, dodging stormtroopers, bought a couple more units quick, raced back and submitted my new list.

But with that minor SNAFU, I had a great time. I came in third, also won for the Allied army that got the furthest. The final two were both Axis Armies. I received:

A Patch and pin for playing.

Johnny one eye and Stefan for playing.

Then I think I received:

Action Jackson and The Priest for getting to the final four. Those were the Premium Painted units.

And for my Allied Army getting the furthest, I received:

Premium Painted Mickey

Premium Painted Crack Shots/13 Foxtrot

All that plus I had a great time.

Then to top it off, I met three guys from Indianapolis that were also in the tournament (I am from Indy) that play at a game store on the NE side of Indianapolis. So now I can go over there and play.

Yes on the Priest given for the top 4. At least thats what I remember. Which is great for me since I didnt have access to the Game Night Kits. As far as the 1st and 2nd place they had a pile of stuff in front of them. It was all Premium painted items. I want to say it was like two walkers each, I think I saw a couple squads plus they received hero's. It could have been more. I know one hero I saw Lou with was the zombie with the saw blade, very cool. Plus first place received a trophy and a Dust Shirt.

Well congratulations for coming in third. From the stuff that you got, I gotta say that it's a pretty good haul. And there's always is a next time. From the look of it, you found more peeps to play the game with.

Congratulations o/
