That may be one of the strangest decks I've seen lately. I'm really impressed. Congrats for taking it all the way, Brett!

? It seems to me to be the usual Baratheon rush deck with the addition of maesters which is around for few months.
- Anyway, congratulations for taking the title.

It's not nearly the typical rush decks that I've seen, which were closer/more comparable to Bloodycelt's Alliance deck. Could be just that I only played him when someone played Bara against me recently, though...

Agreed. He's breaking new ground here. Completely different Plots (save the Power ofs ) Prosperity and Plenty? I don't think you're giving him or the deck enough credit for originality, Ben.

It´s a good deck we all agree on that- it must be otherwise it wouldn´t help to win a 70+ player tournament ...lol.
It just doesn´t do something freakish new and unexpected for me that´s all i wanted to express. I myself have a Bara rush deck for several months and the only surprise in the plot section for me is that there isn´t An empty throne. Which i would have expected in such a deck.
However the central cards of the deck: Bob, Mel, KoF, other renown charachters, smuggler´s cove are all in there. Good draw and a good setup complimented by a trim down to 55 cards with the maester agenda help the deck.
The last really inovative deck winning GenCon was by Adam de Wulf (i think) also a Baratheon build, but with very unusual and creative choices in my book. Just my 2 cents of course.

Not Adam. You may be thinking of Sam Tham's Bara/Martell oddity. Probably the closest think to a combo deck that we have seen win "the big one."
Correct. It was Sam Tham´s deck. That was kind of visionary and unexpected.
Congratulations Intentionally Anonymous it was great seeing you and Greg Atkinson play. Both of you are great players and have a amazing ability to control / predicted the next moves of your opponents. Truly both champions and it was really nice to see you both head to head at the end.
As for those saying the deck was not unique I think only four people where really playing it at GenCon; Rob who had maybe a two card difference on Brett and fhornmikey / myself who hand a sevenish card difference (mostly at the last minute we chose to not run Jane and to run less dupes – which was a bad choice in the end…). Four people out of 70+ and the fact that it was the first time it appeared at a tournament of note I think makes it pretty unique.
Sandy Barnabas was also running a version of it but with more of a focus on Asshai. And yea, I can see how taking out the dupes + Jeyne could have been a bad idea!

At the time we were having major problems with He Calls it Thinking cancelling Bodyguard/Dupe responses, so we took out the Loyal Guards/Jeyne and put in Parmen Crane and some influence for influence based saves. As it turns out we were not expecting Ghaston Grey and that one took us by complete surprise (probably due to our lack of a larger meta, we play mostly on OCTGN). Serious props on the deck, Prosperity and Plenty was a great play and I wish we'd had the courage to stick with dropping Valar for just Threat from the North. It was very well constructed and played ser!

the same deck to within a few cards has been winning sizable tournaments in europe since a week or two after the release of the third chapter pack of oldtown, and lists for it have been circulating by email since right around then... not like i read the various european AGOT forums on a regular basis or anything
while the deck may not have been original, it was very solidly played by brett from what i understand. i didn't see him play myself, but the fact that he was able to pull out a game in the octo-finals against a deck that had all the answers for it (and had clobbered it earlier in the tournament) and go on to guide it to victory against a field full of ghaston grey martell decks is as much a testament to his skill as it is to the incredible luck he had to have to pull a joust world championship out of a 4-2 performance in the swiss earlier in the day. the innovations he *did* make to the list -- the 4/2/1 plot to avoid cyvasse, and the bara event to pull back apprentice collars and other attachments -- likely significantly increased the deck's resilience.
serious congrats man!
Will you, perchance, be posting your deck? I'm curious to see the adjustments that were made to Martell Summer to counter the influx of Maester decks.
Bara Maester's feels similar to playing Brotherhood which feels similar to playing VED Davos Voltron.
As much as I hate to say this, I think we need something like Delicate Stomach or Queen Cercei's Command. These voltron decks create too much of an advantage to some houses which are the only ones that can deal with such a threat. Not that I hate voltron decks, they're incredibly fun (well except beric, but then i never liked the davos variant either CBK is too annoying).
But only such that each house has its own way of answering these things (Targ already does for example).
I also wouldn't mind seeing some Greyjoy character that chooses to not acknowledge titles bought by the gold price.

Just curious why you don't run Core Set Stannis? He has the noble crest, renown, and a pretty decent ability? Seems like he fits in the deck pretty solidly, especially with the power of bloods.
