With reguards to the conversion kit.

By PBnJ, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I was thinking about this and what a great way to get massive play testing and feed back about monster, hero's and abilities. If you think about it. They have converted all of the monsters and heros from E1. play tested them, Im sure. Now they have a kit to sell out to us E1 owners. We buy it, play it and write back some of the things we find unbalanced with the monsters and the heros. so that when they start pumping out the expanions with some of the E1 mosters and heros the errors and unbalanced powers/abilities will be fixed.

I'm good with that! happy.gif

FFG should get a sticky forum ready for the conver. kit question that will come up, that for sure.

The conversion kit looks a great idea. I LOVE E1, and I wouldn't lose nothing of it along the way.

My ask is: could I use even the weapons and the treasure cards from E1?

If yes is good, but even if not the things are great the same, 'cause we'll have FOUR different DEscent setting to play with:

1. Vanilla E1

2. RtL E1

3. SoB E1

4. Brand new E2 (Camapaign setting)

Yes: what a great new!!

good question? I think we won't be able to use then do to the new dice types. but FFG will just made new cards for the same weapons/treasure that for sure. Looking forward to it

if the cards have changed old players are forced to buy the new-developed expansions. well thats a way to make money. the white magic dice have changed to a defense dice, if the foto is right. this seems to confirm that. so 1st edition can be thrown in garbage completely.

conversion-kit with old monster and hero figures is just for homemade scenarios.

I don't think they're going to publish any 2e expansions that include monsters or heroes from 1e. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's EXACTLY why they created the conversion kit. It gives you all the cards you need for those heroes/monsters so that you can use them in 2e if you already have the figures.

That would indeed seem to be the case. Although I have no intention of chucking my 1e set right away. I expect even after I've had a chance to dig around in 2e I'll end up keeping the figures and tiles, at the very least. I might throw out all the old 1e cards if I never intend to play 1e again, but that's a decision I won't be making until I've seen and played 2e at least a few times.

The conversion kit doesn't have any figures, just cards to use your existing 1e figures in the 2e rule-set. It doesn't make mention of converting any 1e quests, though, (nor do I blame them in any way for skipping that part) so us fans will probably need to convert those if we want to replay Narthak's end in 2e. =P

If the conversion kit could help us to use ALL the 1E material, like item and treasure cards, skills, stc., I would purchase it. Otherwise, it seems another game and I could not use rtl and sob, so probably I will play 1E.

Well my group always drew random heroes every game, so having a wider array of heroes will be nice. (Unless the campaign-orientation of the new set makes it so you are strongly encouraged to keep the same heroes.)

And we don't know how the monster spawns and things work in the new edition. The quest could call for monster types and the OL could [randomly get or choose] which monster spawns in that spot. Or the OL cards might be interchangable for the monsters you want.

I seriously doubt the conversion kit is simply an excuse to take $25 from people who like home-brew scenarios. I guess it could be, but that'd be pretty uncool.
