Finn Edwards and the Patrol Wagon

By iballz2, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

I tried finding more info on this issue but couldn't seem to find anything. One of Finn's abilities is that he never has to discard items or lose money. If he becomes Deputy of Arkham does this include the Patrol Wagon? Me and my friends always play random draw for characters in this was the first time with Finn. The player became deputy and had the Wagon for the entire game.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are that Finn can still lose the Patrol Wagon. Discarding a card is a bit different than returning a card to the box. Sure, he's great at keeping track of his stuff, but sometimes a car just breaks down, especially after combat or driving through the rugged terrain of other dimensions.

For me the clincher is that the Patrol Wagon is not an Item, it is a Special Card. Finn's ability does not apply to Special Cards, therefore he has to return the Patrol Wagon if needs be.

Actually, the Patrol Wagon and Deputy Revolver both count as items, according to pg 16 of the rules. That's not to say they aren't also "special" cards.

It is no coincidence that these things can be traded. It looks like anything that can be traded (besides money) is an item. Once we discover whether or not Rail Pass is tradeable, that will also imply whether or not it is an item (or vice-versa).

Then again:

"Important: When adding up items before discarding
them, count all Common Items, Unique Items, and
Spells. In addition, the Deputy’s Revolver and the Patrol
Wagon both count as items. Allies, Skills, and other
cards do not count towards this total." (p. 16)

EDIT: Stupid Adobe allowed Tibs to ninja me llorando.gif .
