3 Years in a row.
Perhaps they should just mail you the trophy so you don't have to make the trip every year?

how many contestors? I heard that GoT had about 70!
I believe it was 16, including myself.
Any idea about what he plays, or a bit of information of the contestors and their factions?
I can't recall everyone's names, but I do remember that we had two mono Yog-Sothoth mill decks, four mono Cthulhu decks, a Cthulhu/Agency deck, A Shub/Syndicate deck, a Yog/Miskatonic deck, a Agency/Syndicate Deck, a mono Agency deck, and a Cthulhu/Hastur Deck. That's all I can recall, I didn't get a chance to see everyone's deck.
The top four were,
1. Tom with Cthulhu/Hastur
2. A man from Amsterdam, I think, who's name escapes me ATM with mono Cthulhu
3. Jim with mono Cthulhu
4. TheProfessor (can't remember his real name) with mono Agency
Thank you very much. I hope that in a few days the official information will be available.
I hope too u will do a report, to see how the tournament goes to u
Well done Tom... you are a master !!!

3. Jim Black, World Champion before Tom (Descendent of Eibon)
4. Me, Chris Pastore.
Tom is such a great player... when we cut to top 4, I felt the mental pressure. I could see Tom start to focus even more... as the stakes increased his attention increased and his play got better. I felt like he knew exactly what was in my hand and knew what I was going to do before I did. Great fun, and congrats to all 16 participants! I had a blast playing and meeting new friends!

Thanks for clearing that up, Professor.
It's a pity we never got a chance to face each other in the tournament. Maybe next time
I stopped by Sunday and got a pic of the full results sheet, so you can see all the names and ranking.
I came in 12th (based on strength of schedule, I won 1 and lost 3) and want to thank everyone at the tournament for being so friendly and helpful. It's slightly intimidating going into a "World Championship" tournament when you've never played a game against a live opponent before but I needn't have worried. I also learned a lot about the game and have some ideas on how I'd like to tune my deck further. I managed to win one game (against Tom's girlfriend no less!), and I feel like I was hanging in there on the second one. If I'd managed to survive one more turn I could have dropped Shub and brought a bunch of Dark Young back into play and maybe had a chance at a comeback but sadly Y'Golonac (my lone defender) was taken out with a Single Glimpse to capture the 3rd story and win the game. The last two I was pretty much helpless. One of them was partly my fault due to a boneheaded resourcing error but let's be honest, I was mostly just outmatched by superior players. Still, not bad for my first real games and I hope to see you all again next year.
Thanks guys!
Ahhh man. Such a good year this year. Smoothest championship I've ever been to. Had more players than ever. Even had our first female match this year between Kristie Riley and my girlfriend Kaitlin Mueller (double bonus!) in round 3. Which is the awesome/cool/sad/wierd/amazing thing was that I was playing Kristie's boyfriend Geordie at table 1 while they were at table 8. Awesome for the couples face-off, cool cause we waved, sad that the ladies were down so far, wierd that what are the odds of that actually happening, and amazing that it did happen and everyone had fun!
Oh, what else... it was just great to see so many players from last year and even greater meeting all of the new ones who I hope to see pop on the forums here in day or two to let themselves be known!
Quick shout out to Ulrich Hergl who I believe was our greatest distance traveled winner this year who came all they way from Germany to attend the convention and managed to take 2nd place this year.... and man did he make me sweat. Mind games were on full power in the final match-up while I'm not certain I'd enjoy that game again, it was fun to play and hopefully one day him and I can have... much less... of a serious game.
A lot of things struck me as odd though this year:
-Winning 3 times!? Gamer-gasm. Side note, 14 more and I can build a "Me-Go Deck." LOL, get it? lol, ohhh I need better jokes... sOOO corny.
-Chris didn't play miskatonic, but... under different circumstances could probably of won the whole thing with his agency deck (which... I could easily say that to just about anyone in or near the top 4... lots of good decks this year). However, MU did make a small splash appearence in Kate's deck so it wasn't lost.
-Silver Twilight wasn't represented at all! However based on what I saw sunday... I expect this to change by next year. Which leads me into me posting some spoilers for u guys which I hope to get to today along with my tournament report.
-Except for a few cards that was in someone's things in the ground/mill deck... I was the only one that fielded Hatsur. Which was strange as aside from agency, I thought Hatsur provided the best dominant and splash card choices... yet people loved Cthulhu.
-Cthulhu seemed like it was everywhere! Two monos and a half in the top 4. Think all the rest of the players using cthulhu had winning records as well. Kinda a big difference from last year where I think there was... 1(?) person playing green?
Suprisingly though I don't expect to see anything banned or restricted based on how things turned out. Sure the seventy steps took worlds two years in a row, Magnus was in a lot if not all decks along with Snow Graves. While its not much of a secret that I think something possibly broken might come up between now and next year... despite some common cards nothing seemed overpowering. To me at least anyway.
And dboeren... thank u for taking and posting those pics... I had meant to get those but completely forgot until I was about half way home.
Gah!... so much typing I want to do but I've said to much to read already. You guys are awesome! Thanks again.

And thank you, Tom and everyone else, for an enjoyable tournament and Gencon, my first of both. Next year, I hope to do far better than last time, and I hope to see you all again.
Oh, and tell Kaitlin I said hi.
Thank *you* sir for encouraging me to join the tournament despite my lack of experience.
All I knew about the "meta" was that last year everyone was running Agency/Hastur, so I took that into account when I built my deck and tried to stick in a bit of Toughness to survive the shotgunning I anticipated receiving but I ran up against a LOT more sacrificing than direct wounds. It's much better to see a variety of colors though and I think we did. I succeeded in getting Shub on the table once which was pretty cool, and was one turn away in another game. Awesome times and a very casual atmosphere as well. If you're out there, you go to Gencon, and you've been hesitant to join the tournament because you're "not experienced enough" - DON'T BE. Jump on in, everyone's cool and will welcome you there.

Couldn't of said it better myself. I think almost half the particpants were relatively, if not brand, new players who 'gave it a shot'. I'll be honest too, I was able to catch a little bit of your matches, and even I would of been a little nervous to face you. If Y'Glonac and a bunch of tough guys showed up you could easily give me a run for my money. Despite time and collection you had a pretty solid deck for the field we were playing in.
Ultimately I'm glad you decided to go for it. Sounds like you had some really good games and got to meet some pretty cool people. I know I did! Of course not only us, but I think all the new players had a similiar experience. So, provided that they can make it next year, I believe/hope that not only you, but most/all of them will return next year to build on what we have.
Good times. Good times indeed.

I certainly expect to see you next year.

As far as I know Ulrich is from Germany. He did attend the regionals that were held in Amsterdam. The man does travel around to get his share of games of CoC, respect,
Hey all, just wanted to say hi, introduce myself to the community and express how much I enjoyed the tournament at gencon. Kristie and I both had a fantastic time and I have to say, the players involved are some of the most pleasant I have found in a gaming community. Something about "fringe" games and mature, amiable gamers... If you're ever in Houston, stop by Asgard Games (.net), as I'm currently formulating a Call of Cthulhu league that will hopefully be in place in the near future!
This game is a rarity in that it is incredibly easy to learn (Kristie and I had only been playing for about a week before we came to gencon), but the decisions to be made in any given game are extremely complex. I think this game is quickly becoming one of my favorites, and I think it has a chance to become a staple of our gaming comminuty.
Congrats to Tom and everyone else who played, it was a pleasure to meet you all and I hope to see you next year or sooner!
Geordie (and Kristie)

So glad you two decided to join us on the forums.
Just in case you were wondering, this is Mike.
Good fun meeting and playing everyone - Geordie, Mike, Dave, the "old gang", everyone else....

Ah, there you two are! Glad to see you pop on. Thanks for the grats and the good games and conversation. Best of luck with your new league and if theres anything I can do to help out let me know.
It was a pleasure meeting both of you and hope to see next year and until then on the boards as well.
Congrats Tom!
This years tournament was great. It was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic new people. I hope our numbers continue to grow!

I had tested Silver Twilight / Hastur and it had a neat feel too it. There were some nice tricks in there, but required a bit more luck than I like. I seriously considered playing it anyways, but I was so burnt out from Hastur last year, I decided I wouldn't play it for a while.
Way to go, Tom!
It was great seeing everyone at GenCon. I hope to see you all again next year.

Frankly I wish I could just live Gencon all year round. Going back to the real world isn't nearly as fun.

Based on what I've seen over gencon...from spoilers... I'd be doubly shocked if no-one plays silver twilight next year.
