Talisman: The Dragon pics from Gen Con Indy...

By talismanisland, in Talisman

Thanks to Mr Bill Stivers, Talisman Island's very own roving reporter, there are some interesting pics from Gen Con Indy up at Talisman Island that people might be interested in seeing.

There are some from the convention and a special one for those that might like to see what's behind the cover...

Thanks for the scoop Jon.

Here's the list of contents from the back of the box:

1 Rulebook

1 Double-sided Board Overlay

168 Dragon Cards (presumably 56 cards for each of the three Draconic Lords)

140 Dragon Tokens

1 Crown Token

19 Sleep Tokens

3 Draconic Lord Cards

3 Alternative Ending Cards

6 Character Cards

6 Plastic Figures

Marvellous! happy.gif

Hmm, the contents. Let's see:

1 Rulebook

1 Double-sided Board Overlay

168 Dragon Cards

140 Dragon Tokens

1 Crown Token

19 Sleep Tokens

3 Draconic Lord Cards

5 Alternative Ending Cards

6 Character Cards

6 Plastic Figures

5 Alternative Eding Cards is quite a bit! Considering the number and the "theme" of the set, I don't expect any of them to be generic endings. They most likely fall in the following two groups:

- Ending Cards that can only be used when the Dragon rules are in place.

- Ending Cards that include some of the Dragon elements in an otherwise normal game.

Though it remains possible that each Dragon Lord is also somehow included as a regular ending card.

I can't tell if it's 3 or 5.

Actually, 3 ending cards like Archdruid said could also be possible. The number looked different than the number for the Dragon Lords on first glance, but perhaps I viewed it wrong. 3 cards is what they did each scenario, so that could mean they would be more "normal".

What does surprise me is no regular Adventure cards, and no Spells.

There were no Spells in 2nd Edition Dragons either.

On closer examination of the pics, there are three Alternative Ending Cards fanned out and partly covered by the box (above the Draconic Lord cards); the visible one has a dragon in the artwork.

The only complete cardname I can read, which we haven't seen before, is Cadorus Shaman. Sacrificial Stone we already know (it was also in 2nd Edition).

That's still a lot of tokens!

168 dragon cards should be enough.

I wonder what the crown token will do

It's nice to see 3 alternative endings in this expansion. Looks like that the black void will be one of them...

Is it on sale at Gen Con!?!?!? I live about 1 and 1/2 hours away....I'd drive there tomorrow!

It has indeed been on sale at Gen Con Indy. Unfortunately I cannot confirm how many copies they had sent over for sale.

I bought a copy on Thursday. I still saw copies on Friday. I suspect they may run out at some point on Saturday but who knows.

Can you please spoil us a little bit?

I think most people would be interested in rules for the new boards.

Is it possible according to rules to play using dragon cards but no dragon tokens?

what are the 3 alternative endings?

What fields are on the new boards? (especially interested in dragon realm which is similar to old inner region)

what abilities have remaining 4 player characters?

Any Horrible Black Void Ending Card?

Why should you play with only the dragon cards, and not the dragon tokens?

The dragon tokens sounds fun, because they appear on the boards, so that you must draw from the separating dragon lord decks..

It's a new twist to the game..

I suppose its a matter of taste ;)

Some Information about the 3 new Endings from Austin Poehler (GenCon posted on BGG):

I will be happy to post more if anyone is interested. I'm kind of rushed for time now because going back to GenCon.
Alt ending: Dragon King
A character on the Crown of Command must roll one die for the Dragon King during each of his turns:
1-2 Discard a Talisman. If you do not have a Talisman to discard, you are killed instead.
3-4 Closkwise starting with yourself, all characters must attack the Dragon King using strength of craft. Each time the Dragon King is defeated remove one of his lives/
5-6 Attach the Dragon Kind using strength or craft. Each time you defeat the Dragon King rem one of his lives and immediately attack him again. If you have a stand off or are defeated your turn end.
* If a character remove the Dragon King's last life he wins the game
* Characters on the Crown of Command cannot encounter each other: they must roll one die for the Dragon Kind instead
* If there are no characters on the Crown of Command the Dragon king heals all his lives.
Str 12 Cra 12 life 5
Alt End: Dragon Slayers
*At the start of the game, place Draconic Lord Cards faceup next to the board. Instead of placing life counters on the Draconic Lords, place five dragon scales on each card.
* During each of his turns a character on the Crown of Command must choose a Draconic Lord to attack using Strength or craft. Each time he defeats a Draconic Lord he must take a dragon scale from the Draconic Lord's card, place it in his play area, and the either attack a Draconis Lord or move to the Portal of Power. If the character is defeated in addition to losing a life her turn ends and he must suffer the Dragon Rage effect.
* When all five dragon scales have been taken from a Draconic Lord his card is removes from the game. When all Draconic Lords have been removed from the game the character with the most dragon scales wins the game! If two or more characters tie for the most dragon scales they share the win.
*Draconic Lords do not heal even if there are no characters on the Crown of Command.
Alt end: Domain of Dragons.
* At the start of the game, draw one draconic Lord card at random and place it faceup on the Crown of Command; this is the Dragon King for the game.
* Whenever a character draws and Enemy with Strength immediately take the top card from the Varthrax deck and place it on top of the Adventure deck of the character's region.
* Whenever a character draws an Object immediately take the top card from the Cadorus deck and place it on top of the Adventure deck of the character's region.
* Whenever a character draws and Enemy with Craft immediately take the top card from the Varthrax deck and place it on top of the Adventure deck of the character's region.
* Whenever a character kills an Enemy from a Dragon Card, he may claim a matching dragon scale from the pool of dragon tokens.
* Whenever a character is instructed to draw a dragon token, he suffers the Dragon Rage of the Dragon King instead.
* A character on the Crown of Command must confront the Dragon King. If a character removes the Dragon King's last life he wins the game

* Whenever a character draws and Enemy with Craft immediately take the top card from the Grilipus deck and place it on top of the Adventure deck of the character's region.

Ell.

about the third ending..

(* Whenever a character kills an Enemy from a Dragon Card, he may claim a matching dragon scale from the pool of dragon tokens. )???

What must the player do with a dragon token if he gets it from defeating a enemy from the dragon lord deck..?

The dragon tokens are random..

No Horrible Black Void alternative ending, despite the clear hint in the first announcement of The Dragon expansion. Perhaps it will still turn up, but in the form of an Event or Place, or even a possible outcome connected to the new board or Draconic Lords?

that's right, it looks like that there is no horibble black void ending if we see the information from Austin Poehler (GenCon posted on BGG..

PS: i still don't understand the ending about the domain of dragons..

What must he do with a dragon token if he gets it from a enemy dragonlord card..

It seems he may claim it, but the following text is that if he draws a token, then he suffers the dragon rage effect..

I think some of the adventure cards in the dragon decks are affected by the dragon scales you carry.

But that would only be used for that ending.

I assume that with the normal rules, dragon tokes are used on which spaces you need to draw the dragon lord cards..

Otherwise, there must a reason why someone want a dragon token, and allowing dragon rage, on his character..

A few more pics have been posted over at the Gioconomicon site. The same display as I showed on Talisman Island, but at greater resolution.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed, but with a bit of jiggery pokery you can make out the card in the second picture as -

Grilipus Druidess, Enemy Cultist, Craft: 4, If Grilipus is the Dragon King, add 3 to the Cultist’s attack roll. She will remain here until she is killed.

I picked up a copy of Dragon myself at Gencon on Thursday (it was one of my two "must buys." The other was Elder Sign). I did have a question, though.

I asked one of the reps about Talisman, stating my fears that the Dragon expansion is historically the death knell of an edition of Talisman, and asked if there is any validity in those fears.

His reply was something like: "I don't know how the license was handled in previous editions, so I don't know what to say about that. Fantasy Flight Games hasn't told any of us future plans for Talisman just yet, but I wouldn't go THAT far (saying it's the last expansion)..."

I think that we must not worry, that this will be the last expansion..

Off course not.

We still need the last 2 regions, and FFG knows that.

But there was enough discussing on the forums about a dragon expansion,, so FFG has please the fans, by releasing a dragon expansion sooner as in 2th edition.

I am grateful for thatgran_risa.gif
